Message from the Dean
Dr. Richard T. Schoephoerster
|
|
What a tremendous Fall it has been for the Washkewicz College of Engineering! Our centennial celebration events were a huge success and they have generated a significant amount of excitement and support from the University and throughout the community. Our kickoff event in August attracted a thousand faculty, staff, and students from around campus, and our student organizations were out in full force to recruit new members and initiate new activities as we finally fully emerge from the pandemic. Our Centennial Lecture Series is showcasing our amazing alumni and community partners, and it will continue through the Spring term. Our culminating event, in conjunction with the CSU Homecoming, was our Centennial Open House and celebration of the Distinguished Alumni Award. The 250+ people in attendance were able to see the activities of our student organizations, teaching laboratories, and key research programs in action during the open house. And how appropriate it was to honor the college’s namesake, Donald E. Washkewicz ’72, with the distinguished alumni award.
As we continue to honor and build the Fenn name and brand through our Fenn Tower and Fenn Hall buildings, the Fenn Academy, and the Fenn Co-op Program, we now focus our efforts on building the Washkewicz name and brand over the next 100 years that will be deserving of its namesake. We have just completed a strategic plan for the college that we believe will do just that. You can see that plan here.
It is my hope that you enjoy the coming holiday season.

In 2022, CSU was awarded a $2,000,000 grant from the National Science Foundation. The heart of the program is to create teams of engineers, therapists, psychologists, and urban experts who collaborate on physical rehabilitation teams. The end goal is to create technologies that empower people with disabilities. This fall we accepted our first cohort of doctoral students into the traineeship program. Not only are the above students interacting with faculty across colleges at CSU, but they are assembling transdisciplinary research teams that actively partner with people with disabilities.
