Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, that number has doubled, with 40% of Americans reportedly struggling with a mental health or substance use disorder. This has led to an increased demand for innovative and evidence-based strategies.

Bayer Supports Demining in Ukraine with Donation to Non-Profit Foundation

Bayer supports the humanitarian non-profit organization “Fondation Suisse de Déminage” (FSD) in its mission to demine land that was contaminated by mines and unexploded devices since the onset of the war in Ukraine. A donation of 825,000 euros will be dedicated to purchasing a large-size mechanical mine clearance machine. The machine is able to process large areas of land such as farmland. Read full story.

Blue Cross Blue Shield Association Applauds Extension of Affordable Care Act Tax Credits

Blue Cross Blue Shield Association President and CEO Kim Keck issued the following statement today in response to the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, which extends Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits for three years: “The Senate’s extension of these tax credits will protect nearly 13 million Americans from cost increases at a time when the price of everything—from gas to groceries—is rising. This move keeps real money in the pocketbooks of Americans and gives them real peace of mind. We look forward to the House passing and the president signing this bill into law and will continue to work with Congress to make health care more affordable for everyone.”
Geisinger Residency Training Programs Awarded Grant to Promote a More Equitable Health Care System

Geisinger has received a grant from leading internal medicine organizations to improve the quality of its Internal Medicine and Medicine/Pediatrics Residency training program. The award was presented by the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine, the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), the ABIM Foundation, the American College of Physicians and the Josiah Macy Jr. FoundationRead more here.
Adventist Health Portland Named High Performing by U.S. News and World Report

U.S. News and World Report has named Adventist Health Portland High Performing in four clinical areas: Heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure and pneumonia. These areas include two cardiac programs by Northwest Regional Heart & Vascular. Each clinical area is graded based on specific data points that range from patient outcomes and volume to length of stay and advanced programs. Depending on the category, the report also evaluates how often patients are discharged to home instead of another facility. Read full story.
Digital Diagnostics Closes $75 Million Series B Funding Round Led by KKR

Digital Diagnostics, a leading artificial intelligence diagnostic health care technology company, recently announced that it has successfully closed a $75 million Series B funding round. This brings the company’s total amount raised to more than $130 million. Global investment firm 01 led the round, with participation from new and existing investors, including Cedar PineKinderhook Industries8VCOptum VenturesOSF VenturesGundersen Health SystemEdward – Elmhurst Health Venture Capital, and the University of Iowa. Vitality Research Provides Blueprint for Employers and Health Plans to Engage People in Their Health and Improve Their Well-Being

L.L. Bean Partners with YMCA to Ensure All Kids Can Attend Summer Camp

In an effort to increase children’s access to outdoor recreation, L.L.Bean has donated $750,000 to YMCA of the USA (Y-USA). The funds were used to provide scholarships to children in underserved communities at over 60 YMCA camps across the country. Each summer, the Y runs nearly 1,500 day camps and offers more than 200 overnight camps for kids and teens, serving hundreds of thousands of kids and teens each year, and providing them the opportunity to make new friends, learn new skills, and interact with nature. Read press release.
3M Finalizes Separation of its Food Safety Business and Merger of the Business with Neogen

3M announced today both the successful completion of its split-off exchange offer for 3M common stock in connection with the previously announced separation of 3M's food safety business and the closing of the merger of Garden SpinCo Corporation (SpinCo), the 3M subsidiary holding the food safety business, with a subsidiary of Neogen Corporation (Neogen). Pursuant to the merger, SpinCo is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Neogen. Read full release.
Campaign Promotes Use of Text Messaging to Prevent Type 2 Diabetes among Pennsylvanians
 
To address the public health crisis of skyrocketing diabetes among Black and Hispanic Pennsylvanians who develop diabetes at greater prevalence, the Health Promotion Council (HPC) and the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) have joined forces to launch “Make a Choice for a Healthier Life” campaign. More than one million households in Pennsylvania are being engaged through this multi-channel campaign, led by multicultural marketing firm Perry Media Group (PMG) and powered by the global health and wellbeing engagement leader, Virgin Pulse. American College of Lifestyle Medicine Named New Content Provider for American Medical Association's Online Learning Platform

The American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) announced today that it has become a content provider of educational courses to AMA Ed Hub™, the American Medical Association’s (AMA) comprehensive online learning platform that supports the learning, licensure and certification needs of physicians and other health professionals. The addition of ACLM as a content provider to AMA Ed Hub will greatly expand access to the professional medical society’s evidence-based continuing medical education courses (CME) focused on the six pillars of lifestyle medicine — nutrition, physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, positive social connection and avoidance of harmful substances. Jefferson Names Joseph G. Cacchione, MD, New CEO of Jefferson Health and Thomas Jefferson University

Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health’s Board of Trustees have announced that Joseph G. Cacchione, MD, will join as the organization’s new CEO, effective September 6, 2022. Dr. Cacchione comes from Ascension, one of the largest nonprofit healthcare systems in the U.S., where he has served as an integral leader since 2017. Most recently, Dr. Cacchione served as Executive Vice President, Clinical and Network Services (CNS) for Ascension, a $28B organization with 165,000 employees across 145 hospitals and 2,600+ care sites in 19 states and the District of Columbia. NeuroFlow Debunks the Myth of Mental Health App Usage among Older Populations
 
A recent Axios survey found that roughly half of Americans are “willing to use select health-related technologies” including meditation apps, fitness trackers, and mental health apps. And industry experts only expect this trend to accelerate. A 2022 HIMSS “Future of Healthcare” study expects “digital health app patient usage to grow by at least 33% in the next three to five years.” Read full article.

CareOregon, Partners Launch Bridge Clinic to Increase Access to Psychiatric Services for Youth on the Oregon Health Plan and Train the Next Generation of Providers
 
This summer, CareOregon, LifeWorks NW and Oregon Health & Science University teamed up to help close the gaps in access to psychiatric services available to youth on the Oregon Health Plan and train the next generation of providers. Known as the Bridge Clinic, this facility offers brief outpatient psychiatric services, including medication management, for youth waiting to receive ongoing outpatient behavioral health support. Franciscan Health Joins BroadStreet for Creation of New Violence Prevention Data Dashboards

Franciscan Health and BroadStreet recently launched a new collaboration with the hope of leveraging data into action using nationally available dashboards for promoting violence prevention across communities. The dashboards present evidence-based interventions specific to a community's demographics and socioeconomic factors. To create the dashboards, Stacey Quick, Franciscan Health community health improvement coordinator, worked alongside BroadStreet CEO and Cofounder Tracy Flood and her team. Together, they envisioned a data-driven, solution-focused framework for preventing violence at both the individual and community levels. Read full Statement

Merck Reports Strong Progress in ESG Focus Areas

Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island Raises Nearly $12,000 for the ALS Association RI Chapter

Hundreds of Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island (Neighborhood) employees enjoyed an afternoon of splish-splashing fun at their second annual “CEO Soak,” raising nearly $12,000 to benefit the ALS community in Rhode Island. Funds raised by the event exceeded Neighborhood’s inaugural CEO Soak tally by over $3,000 and landed the organization for the second year in the top ten list of Rhode Island businesses and organizations that signed on for the fundraising initiative. Read full release.

Reddy Bikeshare, in Partnership with Independent Health, Grows Beyond 100 Stations

As Reddy Bikeshare marks its seventh season, Western New Yorkers will now have more places than ever before to explore, exercise, and connect with folks using a Reddy Bike. The Reddy Bikeshare Team and Independent Health are proud to announce that 13 new stations are being installed this season.
