Featured Graduate Info Session: Counselor Education–School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling

Thursday February 2, 5 p.m.

Would you like to earn a Master’s degree in School Counseling or Clinical Mental Health? At Lehman College, the Counselor Education programs prepare students to work in K-12 school settings or varied environments such as private practice, substance misuse counseling, not-for-profits, community-based organizations, business, government agencies, and healthcare. Register to attend the Zoom event.

Henry Thacker Burleigh Remembrance

Concert 🌟

Saturday, February 4, 2 p.m.

Guest artists Everett Suttle (tenor) and Thomas Hobson Williams (piano) present a concert in the Music Building, Room 306. Burleigh–a singer and arranger–was also the first black composer to be 'instrumental' in developing characteristically American music. Free tickets are available here.

Students are invited to attend Crystal Queer’s LGBTQI+ mixer at the Wellness Center (Old Gymnasium, Room B007). Food and drinks will be provided! Join us—no RSVP is required.

Exhibition Celebration for Queer Love: Affection and Romance in Contemporary Art 

Tuesday, February 14, 5-8 p.m.

Join the Lehman College Art Gallery at an opening for the exhibition that will be on view at the Lehman College Art Gallery from Valentine's day through April 28.

Free reservations are required for the celebration.

Learning Through Art: Black History Month 🌟

Wednesday, February 15, 4-6 p.m.

The Office of Campus Life invites you to celebrate Black History Month with an afternoon of music, spoken word, theatre, and food in the Music Building East Dining Room. The featured artist is Lacresha Berry, creator of the one-woman show “What Would Harriet Tubman Do?" RSVP here.

Nikki Giovanni Speaks on James Baldwin and Beyond 🌟

Thursday, February 16, 2-5 p.m.

The Department of Music, Multimedia, Theatre & Dance, Leonard Lief Library, and the Department of English present world-renowned poet and activist Nikki Giovanni. She will speak in the Music Building Studio Theatre about Baldwin and more in advance of the College's production of Amen Corner. Tickets are available on eventbrite. Choose "Tier 3" for free student tickets. Some seats will watch via livestream.

Blueprint to Success Welcome Reception and Black History Celebration 🌟

Sara Little Turnbull Visiting Designer Speaker Series: Queer Design

Begins Friday, February 24 at 12 p.m.

This 6-part lecture series will examine queer and binary representation within the world of art design, as well as its audiences. The series coincides with and is conceptually aligned with Lehman College Art Gallery's spring exhibition, announced below. Details and registration info to come.

In 2007, Roscoe C. Brown, Jr., (top left) former president of Bronx Community College and a decorated World War II commander of the famed Tuskegee Airmen—America’s first African American military airmen—received Lehman's President's medal at Commencement.


In the fall of that year, Tuskegee airman Lieutenant Colonel William Wheeler—also the father of Derek Wheeler who was at that time Lehman's VP for Administration—was invited to Lehman's Leonard Lief Library to share his personal experience.

News, Updates, and Opportunities

Over 600 Students Return to Lehman Thanks to CUNY Reconnect Program

The City University of New York announced last week that 14,433 students signed up for classes at the University this 2022-23 academic year through CUNY Reconnect, surpassing the initiative’s goal of enrolling 10,000 returning students. That includes 638 individuals who have come back to continue their studies at Lehman.

Lehman College Journalism Students Make the News

This past fall, Lehman journalism students investigated and documented toxic sites in the Bronx and informed the parties responsible for the sites about the necessity of cleaning up the harmful and potentially deadly chemicals.
