Formidable Changes Are Happening All Around Us!
They say that change is an ever-occurring thing and nothing could be more simply stated for this area. The recent past has taken Grand Junction out of the shadows and now into the forefront of favorite places to live in Colorado. Our community is being recognized not only by other residents in the state but also by individuals and businesses throughout the country. We are not slowing down in terms of change and excitement, but rather building and enhancing what is already a beautiful and welcoming
community.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the Grand Junction Community Recreation Center recently took place and construction is slated to begin right away. The rec center will be located at Matchett Park which has over 200 acres in total to be developed. New pickleball courts have also been added to Lincoln Park giving this facility a total of 20 courts dedicated to this extremely popular game.
JUCO just wrapped up with the 2024 tournament. This is the 65th year that Grand Junction has played host to the NJCAA World Series which brings teams in from all over the country. It was also with great sadness that we read of Jamie Hamilton stepping down after 21 years as the Tournament Chairman. Darren Coltrinari will have some big shoes to fill as he will be taking the reins from Jamie.
The State Summer Games for Special Olympics Colorado finished up this past weekend. Grand Junction has played host to these games for over 1,000 athletes for the past 12 years. This is a 3-day event that brings in athletes, coaches, and volunteers from all over the state of Colorado. A huge thanks goes out to CMU and their facilities for being able to accommodate the teams and events.
There are many other festivals and events that will be happening throughout the area including the Bluegrass and Roots Festival and Lavender Festival in Palisade, Country Jam in Mack, and Farmer Markets now open in Fruita and Palisade. The Imondi Wake Zone in Fruita will also be hosting the first-ever World Wake Association’s Colorado State Championships at the end of June. Over 200 athletes will be competing over 2 days and in 7 disciplines.
In Grand Junction, the baseball season is now underway with the Grand Junction Jackelopes.
There is so much to see and do in this area. That is why we live here….and love it!!!
Cheers!

Happy June!
The weather is warm and school is out, so it is time to start your vacation. Luckily, we live in a great location for fun! There are cool destinations all around us and it is time to go explore! For this month’s article, I’ll be telling you about a couple of regional destinations that you simply have to visit this summer. These are great family getaways that everyone can enjoy.
First of all, we have Glenwood Springs is located approximately 90 miles to the east of Grand Junction. Glenwood is a beautiful mountain town, with lots to do. The Glenwood Hot Springs Pool is a great place to swim and relax with friends or family for a memorable day. Glenwood Springs also has a thrilling theme park called Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. Bring some friends and ride the gondola to the top of the mountain. This place has super fun rides and rollercoasters for people of all ages, beautiful views as well as fun food and beverages.
Second, Lake Powell is less than 4 hours away and is a perfect place to cool off during the heat of the Summer. I personally love to paddle board and I can say that Lake Powell is such a cool place to go for swimming, paddleboarding, tubing, cliff jumping, fishing, boating, and more. The landscape of the area is beautiful. Did you know that Lake Powell is 186 miles long with more than 1,960 miles of shoreline? That is more than twice the length of the California coastline. There are several marinas and areas to rent houseboats, campgrounds, and various other lodging opportunities. Stay cool this Summer….go to Lake Powell.
A little closer to home is Grand Mesa. In the winter, Powderhorn is a close central spot for skiing, but in the summer, it is a beautiful area for outdoor sports like hiking and biking. Grand Mesa is full of nature and is a must-visit for all of my outdoor lovers especially if you like to fish, hike, and camp. Located on the top of Grand Mesa there are over 300 lakes across 500+ square miles. This is the largest flattop mountain in the world. Grand Mesa is less than a one-hour drive from Grand Junction and it is an easy one with several lodges available for dining and lodging. Get close to nature…visit Grand Mesa.
That is all for this month. Now get out and enjoy the wonderful places that are so close to home. Be sure to share any vacation photos with us!
See you next month!

Sloppy Joes
If you're craving a reliable, nostalgic, easy (and cheap) weeknight dinner, then there’s no debate: A sloppy Joes’ night is in order. The perfect answer to, “How far can I stretch this package of ground beef?” sloppy Joes' only requires a handful of simple ingredients (that you most likely already have on hand) to create a classic family dinner. Our tried-and-tested recipe uses the unstoppable sloppy Joes' trio—ground beef, tomato flavors, and onion—to create a flavor-packed meal that’s for way more than just sandwiches. Here’s what you need to know:

Grilled Chicken Salad
In my book, a grilled chicken salad is the pinnacle of an easy, healthy lunch. It provides the perfect balance of protein and veggies, filling you up without slowing you down for the rest of the day. Because I rely on this salad so often, I had to make sure it wouldn’t disappoint. So, I stuffed this salad to the gills with some of my go-to toppings. Cucumbers, tomato, feta, olives, and avocado combine to create a Mediterranean-inspired salad that may just be your go-to office lunch from here on out.
