Please read the book for the first session September 12. It is available on Kindle and paperback. We recommend getting the paperback as the diagrams and bibliography are extensive and worthwhile.

September 19: Look at Chris Turner’s Journey and discuss highlights of communities which have pursued technology to find green solutions and improved energy diversification and transition.

September 26: Discuss your own personal journey and what difficulties/ or successes you have encountered.

October 3: How, as a community, can we be optimistic. What personal steps (political, advocacy, investment) can we take?

Prayer Ministry at St Laurence

The Prayer Chain at St Laurence is a behind-the-scenes group of 12 parishioners who pray individually as part of their prayer practice for individuals, close family, and friends of St Laurence members. Those individuals being prayed for are mentioned in the

weekly leaflet by first name. As many prayers are of an immediate nature , we have one person to coordinate the prayers and distribute the request to the Prayer Chain. Updates are always welcome and the prayers will stay on the list for a month unless renewed or updated by the persons making the requests.

City Council: Calgary’s Housing Strategy 

In St. Laurence’s last listening campaign, affordable and available housing was one of our top priorities. Over the past year, the Housing Affordability Taskforce has developed a Housing Strategy to address Calgary’s housing crisis. 

The housing strategy is focused on: 

• Increase housing supply. 
• Support affordable housing providers. 
• Support the City’s housing subsidiaries. 
• Ensure housing choices meet the needs of equity-deserving populations. 
• Meet the affordable housing needs of Indigenous people living in Calgary. 
• The full strategy will be shared for review on the 8th of September. You can register to present at the public hearing. 

A variety of organizations are hosting trainings on speaking to Council. 

• The Climate Hub's is presenting training on how to present at Council. 
• Calgary's Future and ACORN are hosting a bootcamp as well. 

Take Action: 

• Please read the housing strategy document. To locate it, search “housing strategy” on the City of Calgary website. 
• Respond to your councillor. Send a note to Mayor Gondek through her contact page.
