September 12-16th, 2022
This week’s Scriptures inform us of God’s love for those who are poor, God’s intolerance toward those who oppress the poor, and God’s expectations that the Church will focus on prayer for others. The Gospel ends the week with a call to faithful living, choosing God above all else.
Monday, September 12
Amos 8:4-7
Peace and prosperity in Israel led to corrupt business practices and oppression of the poor. The prophet declares that God will not tolerate such behavior.

Prayer: Make me mindful, O God, of those who need food, clothing and shelter. Make me mindful of those who just need a loving embrace. Make me a channel of your love to them. In the name of Jesus.  Amen.

Tuesday, September 13
Psalm 113
This Psalm reminds us that God sees and cares for those who cry out in times of need.

Prayer: You alone are worthy of our praise, O God.  You see us when we are down in the dust, you lift us from the ashes of our lives and you place us on higher ground.  Thank you for your boundless love, through Jesus Christ. Amen.

Wednesday, September 14
1 Timothy 2:1-7
The pastoral epistles offer insight into how early Christians understood many practical matters, such as church administration and worship. The church’s focused prayer for others is an expression of the single-minded passion God has toward us in Jesus. (Sundays and Seasons)

Prayer: May we, your Church, O God, always be in prayer for our leaders, for anyone who is in authority over us, and for our neighbors, so that we may live in peace with each other.  In the name of Jesus. Amen.

 Thursday, September 15
Luke 16:1-13
We are privileged to be called children of God. We are called to live our lives according to the household of God, being faithful in all our dealings, and serving only God.

Prayer: You have given us the Good News of your love for us shown in Christ Jesus. May we be found faithful in telling the story of your love for all. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
