August 30, 2022
Dear friends,
As summer tumbles toward fall here in New England, and as the pace of life picks up for many, we are anticipating an autumn season filled with rich programming, new connections, and robust conversation. Yet we also hold the awareness in our bodies and minds of the continued droughts, floods, wildfires, and other climate disasters that have colored so much of this summer and which offer us the uncomfortable truths of our climate-changed and changing world.
At The BTS Center, we've long held the belief that imagination is intrinsic to how we respond to climate change in ways that are grounded and hopeful, ways which acknowledge our grief and offer possibilities rooted in relationship. And imagination itself is a practice of resilience — one which, like most practices, strengthens the more we engage it.
We hope that in the coming weeks and months, you'll find one or more of our offerings to spark your own imagination. In September, we'll partner with the Maine Council of Churches to host a book event on white Christian nationalism with Rev. Dr. Carter Heyward, and in October we'll partner with greenfaith to offer a book study group on The Intersectional Environmentalist.
And October brings Convocation 2022 — a bounty of thoughtful speakers, musicians, and other presenters who will inspire you to root into imagination as a practice for collective liberation. Over the course of two days, you'll have opportunities for engaging with a rich community of fellow questioners and practitioners. Together, we'll imagine futures of thriving for all beings. We hope you will join us! Registration goes live on September 1st!
As the seasons begin to turn, we wish you nourishment and connection on your journeys.
With best wishes,
