TPCA MEMBERS IN THE NEWS

Last week, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), awarded over $5 million to 11 HRSA-funded community health centers to facilitate access to life-saving cancer screenings and early detection services for underserved populations.

Congratulations to Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center, one of the 11 recipients!

These first-of-their-kind partnerships are bringing health centers together with National Cancer Institute (NCI)-Designated Cancer Centers.

FEDERAL POLICY UPDATE

FY23 Appropriations

Congress has until Friday, September 30 to pass a short-term continuing resolution (CR) to keep the government funded and avert a government shutdown. The Senate released text of the CR yesterday, which will last through December 16.

The CR includes a controversial proposal from Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) to streamline the permitting process for energy infrastructure projects. The CR also includes funding for a variety of other priorities such as support for Ukraine, disaster aid for U.S. states, funding for energy and heating assistance for low-income folks, and funding for water infrastructure in Jackson, MS.

FTCA Coverage for Volunteer Health Professionals

The CR proposed by the Senate also includes a permanent extension of FTCA Coverage for Volunteer Health Professionals who volunteer at community health centers. FTCA Coverage for Volunteer Health Professionals is currently set to expire on Friday, September 30.
