Madison County Working Solutions Success Story

"Recently I had the pleasure of helping a gentleman find and secure employment. The man is in his 70’s and recently moved to Madison County from another state to live with family. He hadn’t worked for some time but has a lot of experience in business and is extremely creative.

"At the initial meeting, we worked together on his paperwork, the job search process, updated his resume, identified his interests and how to apply them to the workforce.

"In our next morning meeting, I talked about this gentleman with my Supervisor and co-workers. They had some very good recommendations. Taking that information, I thought a 'two-pronged attack' would work best for him. Find employment that would help him to start generating income immediately and secondly, look for a job that best fits with his work experience.

"So, in five business days, our customer secured a good paying job that starts this week and we connected him for HEAP and SNAP.

"He is extremely excited and happy for the help he received from the Madison County Working Solutions team."

BUSINESSES: WE CAN HELP YOU UPSKILL YOUR WORKFORCE

The Workforce Development Board of Herkimer, Madison & Oneida (WDB/HMO) has partnered with the NYCAN (NY College Apprenticeship Network) grant to reimburse on-the-job training costs for advanced manufacturing companies that have less than 50 employees and a registered apprentice program.

Wages can be reimbursed at 50% up to $25 an hour for six months of on-the-job training (OJT) with minimum paperwork. The undirected funding provides many benefits for small to medium-sized manufacturing companies and ensures the apprentice is trained in accordance with the company’s standards and procedures.

If you would like to know how your company can take advantage of this funding or know of a company that would benefit, please contact Meghan McBennett at mmcbennett@working-solutions.org.
