New Physician Guidance for Lead Poisoning

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in October 2021 reduced the blood lead reference value from 5µg/dL to 3.5µg/dL. As of March 1, 2022, the Mississippi State Department of Health adopted the new blood lead reference value and started providing program services for families of children identified with a confirmatory venous test of 3.5 or higher.

In July, this Quick Guide for Lead Poisoning was revised by the MSDH to reflect the new recommendations for confirmatory venous testing, venous retesting, follow-up recommendations and reporting requirements. Please destroy any of the old quick guides that you may have in your practice as they are no longer valid.
