Seasonal Horticultural Assistant
With summer quickly approaching, we're looking for a Seasonal Horticultural Assistant for 8 hours per week, from May through mid-October. A love for plants, trees, nature, and horticulture is required. Work experience and a degree of knowledge involving trees and plants is preferred. The right candidate will be trained.

This walking tour will explore the notable trees that dot the Historic Hill neighborhood, from the Newport Congregational Church, up through Touro Park and across Bellevue to the Newport Art Museum and Redwood library. We will look at several highly prized specimen trees, including multiple flowering cherries, magnolias, and oaks.

Miantonomi Park


Celebrate Earth Week by joining Newport Tree Conservancy for a spring cleanup of young, newly planted trees in Miantonomi Park. We will be mulching and surveying trees that have been planted as part of recent reforestation efforts to improve the forest canopy. No experience is necessary, and tools will be provided.

Frederick Law Olmsted Bicentennial Tree Planting

We'll be joining the Newport Garden Club in commemorating Frederick Law Olmsted’s 200th Birthday, in Morton Park at Coggeshall and Morton Avenues. NTC will give a brief talk and tree walk. We will be planting a tree and serving birthday cake.

Free and open to the public.

Help us kick off this year's Tree Corps volunteer season by helping to plant oak trees in Morton Park! Spring is here! Get to know your local park and help us plant a new batch of trees. No experience necessary, come get to know Tree Corps. Want to join us more regularly? Each week, we will be caring for Newport's city trees by mulching, pruning, and watering as needed. Volunteers are needed weekly for this recurring opportunity to make a difference in Newport's urban forest. Volunteers receive NTC T-shirts. Tools will be provided, and experience is not necessary.

Our friends at the Rhode Island Tree Council will be joining us at Morton Park to discuss pruning best-practices.
Training woody ornamentals begins when they are young. This workshop reviews tree growth and discusses pruning techniques. While general pruning principles are presented, approaches and methods specific to evergreen and deciduous plants are illustrated. The importance of a strong structure for growth and performance is explained.
