Happy Valentine's Day, plant lovers!
We hope you're celebrating this special day surrounded by the plants you love. Here at the nursery, we're in a romantic mood. Spring is in the air and flowers are blooming: buds are popping on our fruit and magnolia trees, hellebores are bearing their heavy, nodding blossoms, the euphorbia are bright with yellow flower, and our native manzanitas continue producing their wintry pink profusion of blooms.
Our nursery is fully stocked with a wide variety of beautiful and healthy plants, ready to brighten up your gardens and landscapes to get you through the final days of winter. As the days grow longer and the temperatures start to warm, it's the perfect time to finish flushing out your winter landscape and start thinking about your spring planting.
This month, we're sharing tips on how to begin the transition from winter to spring, some beautiful red and white flowering plants to add romance to your garden year-round, and lots of exciting nursery news and local events.
We hope you enjoy, and thank you for choosing Capitol Wholesale Nursery for your planting needs.
Best,
Jane

Valentine's Day recognizes those first stirrings in the heart after a long, cold winter. As the first signs of spring start to emerge in the Bay Area, it's the perfect time to start preparing your garden for the upcoming season. Here are some tips to get your garden ready for the warmer months ahead:
Clean up debris: Clear fallen leaves and other debris from your garden beds and lawn to help prevent disease and pests from taking hold.
Prune shrubs and trees: Pruning helps to promote healthy growth, remove dead or diseased branches, and shape your plants for the upcoming season.
Add compost: Adding a layer of compost to your garden beds will help to improve soil fertility and structure, as well as conserve moisture.
Start planting: February is the perfect time to plant drought-tolerant plants, deciduous shrubs and trees before they start coming out of dormancy, and California natives (before the soil dries up - take advantage of those moist soils now to help establish deep roots).
By planning thoughtfully, you can have your Bay Area garden ready for the spring and enjoy a lush, colorful display of blooms as the weather warms up. As you plan and prepare for spring, please visit us to browse our thousands of available plants, or contact a sales specialist for a quote.
