From the Minister
Dear Church,
We hope to see you this weekend for the second Sunday in Advent, when we remember peace. Together, we will imagine the ways that God's love is among us, and we will work to envision the ways that our collective Advent practices lead us toward divine liberation. We will think about our faith ancestors and remind ourselves that our beliefs rest on the proverbial shoulders of many wonderful souls who have come before us.
We will find ourselves at the intersection of the deutero-Isaiah work (chapter 40) and the Markan gospel reading, where the wild and wonderful character of John reminds the early followers of Christ that there is a deep power with the Holy Spirit.
Come for community, come for solace.
With hope, always,
Sam

From the Bench
This Sunday, we open with Marcel Dupré's The World Awaiting the Savior, the first movement of his Passion Symphony, which was initially a large-scale improvisation that he subsequently wrote down and published. It depicts chaos, hustle, and bustle (reminiscent of holiday shopping, perhaps) in fits and starts; then a gentle chant intercedes, representing Jesus coming into the world. The chaos restarts, but eventually the chant takes over and triumphs over the darkness.
The choir will sing Brahms' extended chorale motet O Heiland reiß die Himmel auf (O Savior, rend the heavens on high), a set of variations depicting each verse of the German hymn with deft tone painting and counterpoint. The postlude is Helmut Walcha's version of O Heiland reiß.

Advent crafts
We had a really fun and meaningful time this past Sunday with Advent Crafts at the Parish House! We had new neighbors of many ages participate and have a good time so if you helped us prepare or make this event happen in any way, thank you! Because we have several new staff members, we simply could not have done this event without the volunteer help, especially that from Sarah Graber, Cindy Korb-Wellington, Emanuel Genovese, and Eleanor Score. The kids really enjoyed being here and it was delightful to meet new neighbors from other age groups as well. Check out these wonderful photos and know that if you contribute to King's Chapel, it is because of you that events like these may take place!
