Volume 4 Issue 23

Friday 4-H Nugget

Greetings 4-H Community,

Can you believe that 4-H Enrollment is right around the corner? October 1 marks the date to start our new 4-H program year and start enrolling in 4-H. This year we challenge all of you to invite a friend to join in on the fun! Our enrollment numbers grew this past year and we want to see that trend continue!

Be sure to check out the articles below. Reach out to any of our staff if you have questions.

All the best,

Robby Kelly, Sthele Greybar & Corey Sharp

Extension Educators

4-H Enrollment Opens October 1!

Did you know that 4-H Enrollment is going to open on October 1? Once we have the instructions and how to sign up for the new year you will get an email. We encourage you to start talking with your friends and get them to sign up too!

Rocket Launch a Success!

Several 4-H members showed up to the fairgrounds on Sunday, September 10 to launch their rockets. Special thanks to Wayne & Jan Robinson and Dustin & Samantha Mast for helping organize the launch and supporting the 4-H members who attended. If you are interested in learning more about the new aviators and aerospace club please email Corey.

4-H Rule Changes for 2024

New this year, we are asking anyone (4-H’ers, parents, volunteers) who would like to see a potential rule/project change, to please fill out this Rule Change Form.

All submissions are due by September 27 and can be emailed to sgreybar@purdue.edu or dropped off at the Purdue Extension Elkhart County office.

Please understand that state eligible rules/projects are not something that will be changed as a result of this process. Only county-based rules/projects will be considered.

When using the form, please refer to the past year’s handbook here: 2023 Handbook.

The Elkhart County 4-H project review committee will consider submissions that complete this process. Thanks!

Represent Your 4-H Club During Trick-or-Treat at the Fairgrounds

Would you be interested in representing your 4-H club with a table at the Trick or Treat At The Fairgrounds event? Fairgrounds events will occur Friday, October 27, between 1:00pm to 8:00pm.

It is expected that you dress in a costume, be prepared to distribute candy to approximately 1000 kids, share information about your club, and have some kind of 4-H activity or eye-catching 4-H display.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please email Sthele or call the office at 574-533-0553. If you would like to donate candy for this event, please bring it into the office by October 20.

Congratulations Robotic Elks Team!

Congratulations to the Robotic Elks for finishing in second place at the 4-H State Robotics Competition on September 9! Special thanks to all of their members, families and volunteers who helped make the day a success. Also a special thanks to the E3 Robotics Center for hosting our team and providing technical support and guidance. If you are interested in learning more about the robotics team or their new computer, technology & robotics club please email Corey.
