CALLED TO SHARE BREAD FOR LIFE

Holy Week, a sacred time in the liturgical year, invites us to journey with Christ through his Passion, Death, and Resurrection. As we witness the Last Supper and Jesus' gift of the Eucharist, we are reminded of our call to be bread broken for others. Let us draw strength from the Bread of Life and dedicate ourselves to serving our sisters and brothers who bear heavy crosses, bringing hope and the joy of the resurrection to the world. Visit crsricebowl.org/holy-week to learn more.

CRS RICE BOWL MONIES

At the end of Lent, remember to turn in your CRS Rice Bowl monies. No need to return the bowl or the cash, just count your "sacrifices" and write a check for the amount to SJV, put it into the offertory basket or bring it by the office, and we will forward all the donations to CRS Rice Bowl. If you have an envelope for CRS Rice Bowl, you can also send it directly.

GOOD FRIDAY STATIONS OF THE CROSS

This Friday, April 18 at 3:00pm in the church

Join us in commemorating Jesus' passion and death at the hour Christ died.

EASTERN EUROPEAN EASTER BASKET BLESSING

Holy Saturday, April 19 at 7:30pm

In many Eastern European countries, it is a tradition to have a basket of food blessed for Easter Sunday meals. It is a practice dating back to the 15th century, and one which is still maintained by most families in/from Eastern Europe. Learn more

All families are invited to bring Easter baskets to church on Holy Saturday at 7:30pm for a blessing. The baskets can contain food and drink that will be enjoyed at your Easter meal. If you would like to stay after the basket blessing for the Easter Vigil Liturgy, you can put your blessed basket in the church refrigerator for the duration Mass.

READINGS FOR THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD, THE MASS OF EASTER DAY

PRACTICE OF HOPE

For the fifty days of the Easter season, we celebrate our resurrection faith with joy and gladness. During this time, the newly baptized reflect on the Easter mysteries, recall the Easter symbols, and spiritually unpack the joy of the Easter Vigil. All Christians are invited into this process of recall and reflection, called mystagogy.

  • Keep the fifty days of Easter alive in your home by adorning your prayer space with a white cloth, a new candle, and fresh flowers.
  • Place the names of the newly baptized from your faith community near your kitchen sink so that you will remember to pray for them daily.
  • Bread has long been a symbol of Easter. Prepare Easter bread for your home as well as some to share with your neighbors. Wrap the bread and enclose a note that proclaims your resurrection hope in the risen Christ.

EASTER EGG HUNT

Sunday, April 20 after each Mass

Children of the parish are invited to participate in our annual Easter Egg hunt! After each Easter Sunday Mass children will be invited to find eggs and look for the golden egg. The child who finds the golden egg (one per hunt) will win a special Easter gift basket! If it is raining, the egg hunt will be downstairs. If it is nice outside, the egg hunt will be on our beautiful parish grounds around the church.

ADULT FAITH FORMATION

Upcoming Classes

The Liturgy in the First Century

Through the liturgy, we as the people of God approach God, and it is during the liturgy that, as the author of Hebrews tells us, we “come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem” (Hebrews 12:22). For two sessions, on Tuesday, April 22, and Tuesday, April 29 from 6:30-8:00pm we will study the liturgy in the First Century church as a way of deepening our appreciation and understanding of the liturgy and of the way in which the liturgy leads us to God.

The Eucharist

What does the Bible teach about the Eucharist? Is the Eucharist purely symbolic, as many believe, or is Christ truly present in the Eucharist, as the Catholic Church teaches? What is the basis of the Catholic belief in the Real Presence? What is the relationship between Jewish worship and the Eucharist? Join us as we explore these and other questions in a study of the Eucharist. The class will be held each week on Thursday evenings from 7:00- 8:30pm starting on April 24.

Bible Study: 1 Timothy

In his first letter to Timothy, St. Paul provides guidance on moral behavior, proper comportment, and church structure. Each Tuesday from 6:30-8:00pm starting on May 13, we will study and discuss 1 Timothy. The class will explore key themes such as the role of sound doctrine, the importance of godly living, and the qualities of effective leadership in the Christian community.
