Waterfront Expansion Work to Commence

The Town is set to begin construction on the next phase of its Waterfront Enhancement Project on March 24, 2025.

The initiative aims to continue work along Highway 19A to repurpose underutilized Town-owned land to create additional parking spaces, develop bicycle/pedestrian shoulders, and to facilitate a safer active transportation corridor.

Building on previous enhancements in the central waterfront area in 2023, this phase sets to expand parking accessibility and active transportation links along the west and east ends of the Highway 19A waterfront.

Recognizing the significance of the waterfront as a premier tourism attraction for Qualicum Beach, the Town understands the importance of enhancing accessibility to fully unlock its potential. The expansion of parking facilities and the provision of dedicated cycling lanes will not only enhance safety, but also improve year-round accessibility, enriching the overall user experience.

The total anticipated cost of the project is $737,000, with $500,000 secured through the BC Active Transportation Infrastructure program, reducing the Town’s portion to $237,000.

During construction, single-lane alternating traffic will be in effect along sections of Highway 19A, with minor delays expected. Project completion is anticipated by the end of June 2025.
