The Behavioral Health Workforce Training Clearinghouse (BH Clearinghouse) is a resource to support the development of Community Behavioral Health Centers (CBHCs), a new network of community-based clinics offering real-time and high-quality access to behavioral health treatment in Massachusetts. The BH Clearinghouse offers high-quality, free training for CBHC providers and Behavioral Health Help Line (BHHL) staff in evidenced-based behavioral health practices.

Be sure to bookmark the Self-Paced Online Training page of the Behavioral Health (BH) Clearinghouse. Here you can view a complete listing of courses that are “Available” and “Coming Soon”. Available courses include a [Launch Course] button that will bring you directly to the ForHealth Consulting Learning Management System (LMS) login page to enroll in the training. Once in the LMS via your login (CBHC email address) and password (click reset password if needed), you can self-enroll in online training courses: 

  1. Click on the “Discover” link in the top Navigation bar. 
  2. View available courses by scrolling up and down the page. 
  3. Click on the course you’d like to take. 
  4. Click on [Enroll in Course] to self-enroll and complete the course.

Military Culture and Behavioral Health Care for Veterans


In a survey of 746 healthcare providers in New York, only 13% had participated in formal training regarding military veteran culture, and 20% reported routinely screening patients for military service history (Taniellian et al, 2018). While the veteran population is shrinking, the veteran population is becoming more racially and ethnically diverse (U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Center for Veterans Analysis and Statistics, March 2017). Mirroring social inequities in the general population, recent surveys highlighted gender and racial disparities in career opportunities and discipline processes (Inspector General Department of The Air Force, 2021). This program addresses these gaps by providing foundational knowledge about the U.S. Military and military culture, including demographic information about those who serve, and the impact of military service on veteran mental health.

Access for Deaf, Deafblind, and Hard-of-Hearing Individuals


This 30-minute training provides guidance on how to effectively work with diverse Deaf populations using video scenarios of challenges in connecting appropriate interpreter services for individuals and the negative consequences that result. Building a foundational understanding of Deaf culture, working with interpreters and assessing individual preferences for communication are presented as best practices. This short training does not meet the requirements for CE Credits.

Common Medical Comorbidities in Older Adults


The goal of this training is to increase the abilities of crisis care teams and behavioral health clinicians to recognize mental health conditions in older adults, how presentations/treatment differs from other populations, and to consider the unique needs related to caring for these patients for behavioral and emotional concerns and during behavioral health crises. The presenter will also highlight the importance of understanding cognitive impairment/dementia and how that can affect presentation and safety.

This will be a monthly meeting for CBHC leadership and those implementing and maintaining the fidelity of EBPs. The first two CoPs will build on the issues discussed at the Fidelity webinar. We ask that you register for both sessions even if you cannot attend both. Future monthly sessions will be communicated in the December newsletter.

 

Representation from all CBHCs is strongly encouraged.
