Field Trip to Orthodox Shul Aish HaTorah
We are excited about our upcoming comparative Judaism field trip to Orthodox Shul Aish Ha Torah on Saturday, March 22. We will be meeting at the AJCC at 9:00 am. We will have a speaker and lunch with congregants. We will return to the AJCC by 3:00 pm. Teens will text when we are on our way home.
As Aish HaTorah is an Orthodox synagogue, students must observe the appropriate dress code. Girls are asked to wear a skirt or dress that is at least mid-calf in length, and a top that covers the collarbones and elbows (3/4 sleeve). Please wear closed shoes. Boys should wear nice slacks and a sports shirt and must wear a kippot. Don’t forget bobby pins! Your head must be covered. No sneakers. There will be no class on Sunday, March 23 due to the field trip. 8th graders are welcome to work as Madrichim all morning.

We will meet at the AJCC at 5:00 of respect for our host, please wear nice temple attire. We will observe a service, learn about the Sikh religion, and have dinner with our host. We will return to the AJCC by 9:30 pm. Teens will text when we are on our way home with an exact eta. WE NEED DRIVERS. Please let us know when you RSVP if you are able to be of service.

2025 NCJW – Greater Long Beach & West Orange County Scholarship Application: Now Open!
The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) – Greater Long Beach & West Orange County (NCJW – GLB & WOC) offers scholarships to resident area students from donations made to our Tikkun Olam Fund and the Linda Calderón Memorial Scholarship Fund. We will begin accepting applications effective MONDAY, DECEMBER 16, 2024, until the deadline of MONDAY, MARCH 17, 2025 - 11:59 PM PST - EXTENDED TO WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30, 2025 - 11:59 PM PST. Awards this year will range from $1,000 to $3,000 depending on the number of qualified applicants. Note – Applications will be placed in one of the following three review groups to ensure consistent comparators: (1) college and university applicants, (2) trade school applicants, and (3) high school senior applicants.
NCJW – GLB & WOC is a volunteer organization inspired by the Jewish values of tikkun olam – repairing the world. NCJW – GLB & WOC members make a difference locally, across the United States, and Israel. NCJW takes progressive and visible stands on issues including immigration, refugees, human trafficking, women's rights, reproductive freedom, and voter engagement and education. Our advocacy efforts occur at the local, state, and national levels. We also partner with other community organizations to increase our support. NCJW – GLB & WOC encourages all Jewish college/university/trade school students and high school seniors to apply for this opportunity.

Recipients will be selected based on the following criteria:
- Jewish involvement,
- Personal motivation,
- Past achievements,
- Financial need*, and
- Academic standing.
Eligibility requires the applicant to meet the following criteria:
- Identify as Jewish and have at least one Jewish grandparent or parent or have formally converted to Judaism and be committed to the Jewish community, demonstrate leadership, and participate in community service;
- Respond to all required scholarship application questions;
- Provide evidence of financial need via the required application question;
- Be a college, university, or trade school applicant with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above as evidenced in their transcript; or Be a high school senior applicant with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above as evidenced in their transcript; and
- Be a permanent resident in Greater Long Beach or West Orange County.
* Financial need will be considered, but it is not a requirement.
