Given the size of our small community one might assume that we suffer from a lack of delicious dining options, but that could not be further from the truth. Whether it be one of Humboldt's long time staples such as, Los Bagels, Luzmillas, Larruipn Cafe, Tomo, or Sea Grill; or a successful newcomer like The Couxp, Bayfront, Nori, or Salt Fish House, we are surround by countless options. I have given myself the impossible task of ranking my top five favorites, so here we go!
1) Toni's
2) The Couxp
3) Campground
4) T's Cafe North
5) Trinidad Bay Eatery
Toni's takes the number one spot for a few different reasons, primarily because of the consistently of the quality. I was on the fence for my 1st and 2nd place ranking this week, but then I had a loaded bacon cheeseburger the other night and that sealed the deal. I understand that some people might take umbrage with this ranking, so I must admit that some of my adolescent memories have definitely swayed my vote. If more restaurants we're open 24/7 my rankings might be a little different, but when there's only one place to go after every high school and college party, and they just so happen to make a delicious linguini burrito and milkshake, it's a done deal.
Coming in at number two is The Couxp, home of Humboldt's Best Fried Chicken. This promising food truck is located just south of the Arcata Plaza and has a handful of mouth watering options from the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich, to the Korean Fries, or my personal favorite Sticky Thai Wings, you can't go wrong.
Rounding out the podium is Campground, a warmly welcomed addition to Humboldt's dining options. Campground stands alone with its fresh look and style, while the food doesn't disappoint. You can't go wrong with a savory steak and polenta, or if you choose to dine during their weekend brunch hours, I highly recommend the Chilaquiles (when available) or you can't go wrong with the Vanilla Doughnuts.
T's Cafe North lands in the four spot as one of Humboldt's best breakfast options. Their Chicken Fried Steak might be the best in the county, and the variety of Mimosa's they offer is something to write home about. Located just blocks from the Arcata Plaza, a brunch date followed by a trip to the farmers market makes for a real nice Saturday morning.
In the five hole we have Trinidad Bay Eatery, a great place to get a bite while exploring all that Trinidad has to offer. Their chowder does not miss, while the quality and selection of sandwiches is sure to delight the pickiest of eaters. Located on the edge of town just above the harbor, it makes for a perfect place to sit down after a day at the beach or to fuel up before hike in the woods.
I know I left a bunch of delicious options off the list as there were about 25 runner-ups I considered in writing this, which goes to show just how many great spots we have here on the North Coast. Please let me know your favorite place that I left off the list.
