Walpole, NH (July 7, 2023) – Join Cheshire County Conservation District (CCCD), University of New Hampshire Extension and NOFA-NH for an on-farm workshop for livestock producers focusing on manure management using bedded pack facilities.
Bedded packs can be a lower-cost option for livestock housing, but they require careful management to work well. UNH Extension specialist Carl Majewski will discuss health considerations, proper design, and maintenance of the facility. We’ll also cover manure management, a brief overview of the composting process, and the importance of calculating and applying agronomic rates. Farmers Chris and Holly Gowdy will demo the spreader they recently acquired to apply manure from their bedded pack barn.
