Holocaust Survivor Celebrates 100th Birthday

Last week, we had the honor of celebrating the 100th birthday of one of our cherished Holocaust survivors, Bill S., at Café Europa—our monthly luncheon for survivors. Surrounded by family, fellow survivors, dedicated volunteers, JFS staff, and honored guests, the event marked not only a milestone in years but a testament to resilience, strength, and the enduring human spirit.

Wearing a baseball cap that humorously declared, "Not Everyone Looks This Good at 100," Bill exuded joy and gratitude. He expressed, "I want to thank Fay and her staff for everything they've done for me, for you, and for all of us over the years, including the service of the meals." Bill was happy to celebrate with his peers who truly understand the significance of reaching this remarkable milestone. When asked about the key ingredients for a good life, he kept it simple, saying, "Health, comfortable living, family, making others happy, and a little bit of joyful existence." He maintains an active life, filled with his growing family—2 children, 6 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren—and is an avid stamp collector. His fondest memories come from building his family with his late wife of 72 years.

A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated volunteers whose unwavering support made the event possible, fostering a sense of community and togetherness. To learn more about JFS Holocaust Survivor Services, call 732-777-1940. Please help support our survivors in need - visit our donation page today.

Community Champions:

Making a Difference in Our Community

As a nonprofit committed to delivering vital services to those in need, JFS appreciates the support from individuals and private organizations that allows us to better serve our community. Each donation serves as a lifeline, providing relief, empowerment, and hope to families navigating challenges in our community. This month, we express deep gratitude to our latest community champions whose dedication to giving back inspires others to do the same.

Investing in JFS: Cultivating a Thriving Community for All

Thank you to Magyar Bank of New Brunswick for their generous grant supporting our nutritional services, ensuring seniors and local families have access to nourishing food.

A special acknowledgment to Vice President John Reissner (pictured) for his commitment to fostering community relationships. Community champions like John, along with organizations like Magyar Bank, are invaluable partners for nonprofits like JFS. Their steadfast support enables organizations to continue to provide essential services to those most in need.

Individual Giving: Shapes Collective Impact

With a compassionate heart, our remarkable volunteer and donor, Susan, has passionately dedicated 15 years to JFS. Her passion in supporting JFS stems from her volunteer experience and seeing the work JFS does across several programs. Reflecting a deep connection to our cause, she states: "I love the mission and I love the people...your mission is helping people and making their lives better. And I really like the fact that the population you are serving is varied, and it's also very nice to see a group of people in an organization who are so lovely and work well together." Her impact extends far beyond the tangible, embodying the spirit of compassion that defines our community. Over the years, she's contributed her time and resources to bridging the gaps, showing the impact one person can have in her community. Thank you Susan!

Workplace Giving: Fostering a Culture of Compassion

Each year the Engineering/Facilities Department at RWJBH New Brunswick selects a community organization or nonprofit to support. This year, we are grateful they have chosen JFS' Kosher Food Pantries to extend a helping hand in ensuring our pantry shelves are stocked. In response to our urgent call for funds to support year-end distributions, their compassionate donation is helping us meet the needs of local families this holiday season. Heartfelt thanks to the team for choosing to support JFS and our community in such an impactful way.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all our champions and community partners for recognizing JFS and our efforts to assist families in need. Your support transforms everyday moments into miracles. As we continue this journey, we invite you to support our work by donating online and be a part of the positive change we bring to our community. Together, we can make a lasting difference.
