Our theme for the Ideas Forum is “Together Again” and we’re building an education program that will encourage participants to rethink and reimagine their approaches to running their businesses.

The Ideas Forum is attended by owners, managers and staff of Campgrounds, RV Parks, Lodging, Glamping, and Resorts along with key suppliers to the sector in British Columbia. We expect 60 campgrounds to be represented.

To register as a delegate pricing is:

  • On-site registration in Kelowna $298+GST first person and extra people for same business $248+GST - Includes all sessions, keynote speakers, attending the tabletop trade show, refreshments, and meals as advertised in the agenda. Does not include room accommodation. Pre-registration required. https://bc.mycampcon.com/register/

We hope you can join us!

PROVINCE SEEKS INPUT - NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION

The BC government is seeking input from BC employers and employees on whether the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation (September 30) should be designated a provincial statutory holiday under the Employment Standards Act, starting in 2023.

In 2021, the federal government designated September 30 as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which grew from a grassroots campaign called Orange Shirt Day. Since this day is a federal holiday, it only applies to roughly 10% of workplaces in BC.

While some BC employers may decide to recognize this day and provide their employees a paid day off, there is no obligation for them to do so. A provincial statutory holiday would change that.

CAMPING APPRECIATION WEEKEND

Camping Appreciation Weekend will soon be here and it's a time when many Canadian campgrounds coast-to-coast say thank you to campers for their patronage.

Dates: September 9th - 11th

The weekend is organized and sponsored by the Canadian Camping and RV Council and supported by the BC Lodging and Campgrounds Association to:
  • Say thanks to those that enjoy the camping and RVing lifestyle.
  • And, to raise funds for Care Camps to send children with cancer to camp.

There are many BC campgrounds participating - reservations are recommended.

Visit HERE to view the map of participating campsites. It’s not too late to sign-up your campground to participate so email me at jpenny@bclca.com.
GERMIEST PLACES IN HOTELS

Here's a list of seven dirty objects in hotels that carry more germs than a toilet itself.

  • Elevator buttons
  • Door handles
  • Bathroom furniture
  • TV remote control
  • Desk or table
  • Phone
  • Light switches

What should you do to protect yourself?

Experts recommend taking necessary hygienic measures which include keeping your hands away from your face after touching any of these dirty objects in a hotel.

Other measures are:

  • Washing your hands to get rid of any germs that may have stuck on your hands after you touched these objects.
  • Using sanitizing wipes to clean these surfaces
  • In the specific case of the remote control, in addition to cleaning it with a wipe, also take extra measures to protect your hands from viruses and bacteria.
CANADA DIGITAL ADOPTION PROGRAM GRANTS

As consumers increasingly move online to shop, it’s essential for small businesses to develop e-commerce capabilities to remain competitive. As part of the Canada Digital Adoption Program, a $4 billion investment to help small and medium-sized businesses get online with new digital tools, the Government of Canada has two streams to support small businesses across the country.

They have partnered with Small Business BC and Digital Main Street to deliver the Grow Your Business Online grant. Eligible businesses will receive a micro-grant of up to $2,400 to help with costs related to adopting e-commerce, with support provided from a network of E-commerce Advisors.

They also support the Boost Your Business Technology grant which offers support to eligible businesses who want to adopt new digital technologies.

PACK LEAN, LEAVE CLEAN CAMPING CAMPAIGN

Summer is camping season in BC, and Recycle BC is encouraging everyone to leave nature the way they found it with Pack Lean, Leave Clean.

Based on the ‘take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints’ maxim, the Pack Lean, Leave Clean campaign raises awareness about recycling camping packaging, specifically soft plastics. The campaign teaches campers how to prepare, pack up and sort recyclables, making sure our parks are beautiful for decades to come.

The campaign has tips and advice to offer for everyone. Recycle BC is inviting you to follow their social channels on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, share tips, tricks and blogs, and learn more about how to minimize waste by recycling camping packaging.
