A Weekly Update from the Strafford Region

Planning

SRPC staff has begun to work with the Town of Lee and City of Dover to create a Natural Resources Inventory (NRI) to determine the high value land use management priorities in each community. This information will help to make informed decisions about preservation and protection of natural resources, wildlife and wildlife habitat. These projects are funded through a grant from the Piscataqua Region Estuaries Partnership (PREP).

Transportation

SRPC will be working with two engineering firms through June of 2026 to support transportation planning work. BETA will be providing on-call engineering services to support development of local and regional transportation projects. This will include meetings with municipal staff and residents to discuss project goals, followed by preliminary engineering assessments, and cost estimate development. Professional engineering support is critical for developing projects that are competitive for funding opportunities.

VHB will be working with Strafford, Rockingham, Nashua, and Southern RPCs to complete Safety Action Plans for each region. The plans will make municipalities eligible for project implementation grants through the Safe Streets and Roads for All program. The program and the plans are aimed at achieving Zero fatalities and serious injuries on public roads – this is commonly known as “vision zero”. Detailed crash and demographic data analysis and specific safety improvement projects will comprise a set of specific actions to make progress in making transportation safer.
