Unveiling Our New Mural!

June 6th, 3 - 4:30 p.m.

We are very excited to share that Rosalia Torres-Weiner of Red Calaca Studio has created a spectacular mural for our offices!

We love the vibrant colors and warm welcome that her artistry will provide for all our visitors in the future! A huge thanks to STEAP.net which secured community grants to underwrite this beautiful addition to our building. Thanks also to Rosalia and her husband Ben Weiner who worked for a week to create this wonderful mural.

Everyone is invited to the official "unveiling" of our mural during a Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, June 6th from 3 - 4:30 p.m. in IAM's parking lot. Come meet the artist, take selfies with our mural, and bring the kids for a special children's art activity organized by Rosalia.

We hope to see you there!

A Neighbors' Story

Dennis and Sherry

Dennis and Sherry* are a lovely, retired couple who worked hard their whole lives but were never able to save enough for a retirement free of financial stresses. Living on a fixed income, they are typically able to handle their normal monthly expenses. Recent unforeseen circumstances, however, put them in a temporary crisis.

Necessary repairs to their septic system and extremely high winter utility bills left them short of cash to pay all their bills. Further complicating their situation, one of their adult sons moved back in with them as he tried to get back on his feet financially.

Fortunately, IAM was able to help with their electricity bill to make sure the lights stayed on and eliminate one more stressful situation keeping Dennis and Sherry awake at night.

Seniors on fixed incomes face daunting challenges as rents, food prices, and frequent medical bills overwhelm their bank accounts. With help from IAM, our seniors are able to stay warm and healthy in their homes. They also realize that they are not alone in their senior years – thanks to the compassionate people in our community willing to offer a helping hand to get them through a difficult time.

Back-to-School Clothes Drive

Each year, IAM provides back-to-school clothing for area students to prepare them for the new school year. Proper clothing is important to the confidence and self-esteem of students and we want to make sure that they have everything they need to feel good about themselves and succeed in school.

Beginning in July, IAM's clothing closet will provide students from kindergarten through 5th grade with new shirts, pants, socks, underwear and shoes to get them started on the right foot!

This year we have several ways to participate in this very meaningful community outreach. Including:

  • Purchase and donate school clothes on the needs list below.
  • Visit our Amazon Wish List and have items sent directly to IAM.
  • Pick a child’s tag from the Back To School Blessings Tree at IAM Thrift Store.
  • Make a designated financial gift to purchase new clothes and shoes for our children preparing for school.

Thank you for supporting this initiative to help our students. Together we can make sure our most vulnerable children have a wonderful school year!

Meet Terra Skye!

Meet Terra Skye! She is IAM's representative in the 2024 Bearfootin' Art Walk in downtown Hendersonville.

Great thanks to our bear sponsor, United Community Bank of Hendersonville and to our fabulous artist, Teresa Duncan. This is the fifth bear Teresa has donated her time and artistic vision to create for IAM! Be sure to visit Terra Skye at the corner of Main St. and 3rd Ave. East. The annual Bearfootin Bear Auction will occur in October and proceeds from the sale of Terra Skye will benefit IAM - so get ready to bid!

Stop by soon to visit Terra Skye. We think you will agree that she's beautiful!

Welcome Jodi Maney!

IAM is excited to announce that Jodi Maney has joined the IAM team as one of our dedicated drivers delivering food to neighbors in need through the Healthy Opportunities Pilot (HOP) program.

Jodi particularly enjoys meeting HOP recipients during her deliveries. "Sometimes they will meet me at the door and they are very grateful to see me walking up with their box of food or fruits and vegetables. That feels good."

Jodi also has first-hand knowledge of what our neighbors in need are going through. "Years ago my son had a medical emergency and we lost everything. IAM helped pay our electricity bills and gave us food until we could get back on our feet." That experience makes her very empathetic to people's circumstances. "We didn't choose for our son to get so sick. You never know what circumstances people are dealing with."

Please join all of us at IAM as we welcome Jodi to our team!

We Need Volunteers!

Do You Know Someone Who Can Help?

IAM is a wonderful place to make a real difference in our community. We have many different types of opportunities in our pantry, clothing closet, as interviewers, in our IAM Thrift Store, as drivers, delivery navigators and helping with our Mobile Pantry each week.

IAM Volunteers can choose to work one or more 4-hour shifts each week - either in the mornings or afternoons, Monday - Friday.

Learn more and complete the Volunteer Application here. Thank you and we can't wait to meet you!
