READINGS FOR THE FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
PRACTICE OF CHARITY
Jesus sent the twelve out two by two to proclaim the Good News: the apostles have a companion with whom to share their journey.
- Who has served as your companion on your faith journey? Say a prayer of gratitude for them today.
- As Jesus sends the apostles, he instructs the pairs to "take nothing for the journey but a walking stick - no food, no sack, no money" (Mark 6:8). In doing so, he makes a comment about overconsumption, about what is really needed to live a holy life. Take time this week to do a closet audit: What material things do you own in excess (clothing, shoes, appliances, books, etc.)? What do you need to live a holy life? How does a culture of overconsumption prohibit you from fully living the Gospel?
- After your closet audit, consider giving glory to God by sharing your wealth: gift or donate your excess material things in good condition to others.
We are doing our best to continue to provide a safe space to worship for everyone. Click here to see current COVID safety measures.
Live Stream Mass is on Sundays at 9:00am.

WELCOME FR. BRAD AND FR. VAL!
Fr. Brad's first weekend Masses with us were last Saturday and Sunday, July 6-7. Fr. Val's first weekend Masses with us are this Saturday and Sunday, July 13-14. We look forward to welcoming them to SJV and getting to know them. May God enrich our lives together as we worship and serve Him.
There will be receptions after each Mass this weekend to welcome Fr. Val. Please take the opportunity to introduce yourself and encourage him. Fr. Brad and Fr. Val are excited to be with our parish family and grow with us.
For the next several weeks, nametags will be provided in the narthex as you enter Mass. Please make use of these to help our new priests get to know you.

PARISH FAMILIES FORM ACROSS THE ARCHDIOCESE OF SEATTLE
On July 1, the 136 parishes in the Archdiocese of Seattle became 60 parish families, with eight stand-alone parishes. This came after two years of planning, extensive consultation and discernment.
Each of the parish families will be led by a pastor or pastoral coordinator, and many will also have a parochial vicar assisting. Together, over the next three years, the parish family will work to form one new canonical parish, while creatively re-envisioning how they will serve their community.
Archbishop Paul D. Etienne released a letter to the People of God to commemorate this important and historic chapter in the Archdiocese of Seattle. Read the letter

WHAT'S NEW IN PARTNERS IN THE GOSPEL AT SJV
Now that Partners in the Gospel is in effect, the Pastoral Commission (pictured) is meeting regularly to discuss and facilitate the transition to the parish family. We will keep you updated about any new developments that affect SJV through this column.
If you have suggestions about ways in which we can work together with Holy Family Kirkland, ideas about how the transition can help us better evangelize the faith, or questions about Partners in the Gospel, feel free to email the Pastoral Commission at johnvianneykirkland@gmail.com.
What's New on July 26, 2024
- On July 1, we began Phase 1 of Partners in the Gospel, which will last about one year. This phase is one of welcoming: of getting to know our new priests and the members of Holy Family Kirkland, the other parish in our parish family.
- We will provide details about the implementation of Phase One as they become available.
- There will be welcoming receptions for both Fr. Brad (July 6-7 after all Masses) and Fr. Val (July 13-14 after all Masses).
- There will be nametags to help our new priests recognize us. Be sure to introduce yourself as you leave church!
-
Father Brad's intention is to keep things, including liturgical and sacramental events, much the same as possible.
For updated developments that affect SJV, go to sjvkirkland.org/welcome/#partners.
