Dear friends and supporters,

Only homes end homelessness, and the Oak Rose Affordable Housing development will bring 67 dedicated homes to help people find wellness and stability, but the City of Elk Grove has voted against supporting this development. We have the opportunity to change their minds and ask that you speak up! This development will be discussed at the City Council meeting on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.

Let yourself be heard and show support for this project developed by Excelerate Housing Group, with service provided by Hope Cooperative, who  has deep roots in Sacramento County and the local experience needed to successfully operate this development. This is the work that SHA and our members are passionate about! Let’s come together and advocate for what is right! The meeting starts at 6pm and this topic is Agenda item #8.1.

Item Agenda 8.1 is a public hearing to consider an applicant appeal of the  Planning Commission’s denial of eligibility for the Senate Bill 35 ministerial review process, Development Standard Waiver, Density Bonus, and an Affordable Housing Regulatory Agreement with Oak Rose Apt. L.P., a California Limited Partnership, for the Oak Rose Apartments Project located at 9252 Elk Grove Boulevard.

Public comments can be made in-person at the council meeting which will be held directly across the street from City Hall at 8400 Laguna Palms Way, Elk Grove 95758.

Kendra Lewis

SHA Executive Director

Dear Councilmembers,

My name is ___ and I am (Elk Grove resident of X years / work in Elk Grove / stakeholder in providing services or housing to the unhoused community)

I support the Oak Rose Apartments project at 9252 Elk Grove Blvd. The development will deliver 67 units of desperately needed Permanent Supportive Housing with dedicated, long term affordability and the wraparound case management and holistic support that folks need to maintain their housing and stabilize their lives. Service provider Hope Cooperative has deep roots in Sacramento County and the local experience needed to successfully operate this development.

We know that homelessness is on the rise in Elk Grove just like it is in the rest of the County, and we should be welcoming this resource because we need this kind of housing in Elk Grove now more than ever. Only homes end homelessness, and this development will bring 67 dedicated homes to help people find wellness and stability. This is not a shelter, this is permanent housing.

I also support the location of this development. Housing for people who have experienced homelessness should be located within easy walking distance of amenities and transportation. The proposed location is across the street from a CVS with a pharmacy, and on the other side of Waterman Road are a grocery store and a variety of food and retail options. Immediately in front of the project is a bus stop that provides hourly service to Cosumnes River College and the CRC Blue Line Station with service to Sacramento. This is a sensible location for any apartment building.

It should be a priority for the city to build housing for people who are homeless as quickly as possible. The city should help in whatever way they can to get this project built!

Sincerely,

Our Mission: Sacramento Housing Alliance advocates for safe, stable, accessible, and affordable homes in the Sacramento region. SHA builds healthy communities through education, leadership, and policy change.
