The Diocesan Finance Department, along with our partners at Strategic HR Business Advisors, will offer three webinars in the coming months covering Human Resources issues. Each webinar will be held from 12 to 1 p.m.


  • Wednesday, September 21 at 12 p.m.: Basic Employment Law (specific to churches). Register online.
  • Tuesday, October 4 at 12 p.m.: Managing Performance: Coaching, Corrective Action and Terminations.

Congregational safety webinars


Gregory Howard, a Protective Security Advisor with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency (CISA) serving Southern Ohio, will present two webinars on church safety on September 28 and October 19. The webinars will be free of charge and are recommended for vestries and others in church leadership.

Protecting Places of Worship Week webinars


As part of National Preparedness Month, the Department of Homeland Security Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships has coordinated the Protecting Places of Worship Week of Action between September 14-25. The week includes two webinars open to the public:


  • Tuesday, September 20 at 2 p.m.: Building Partnerships that Promote Safety and Security for Places of Worship and Community Spaces. Register online

"Nourish" Campus Ministry Fall Retreat

The Campus Ministry Collaborative will hold its annual fall retreat October 7-10 at Hocking Hills' Lazy Bear Cabin in Logan. Young adults and students who would like to feed their soul through connecting, restoring and relaxing should register by Sept. 30. For more information or to register, contact the Rev. Liturgical items available at free cycle market

The Church Foundation has made liturgical items from closed congregations available for congregations who may need them. A free cycle market has been created on the diocesan website to serve as a catalogue of items.


Congregations are also invited to advertise surplus linens, robes, vestments, office supplies and furniture that are free to a good home or available for a small donation. To add items, send pictures and descriptions along with contact information, to communication@diosohio.org.

148th Annual Convention to be held November 19

The 148th Convention of the Diocese of Southern Ohio will take place on Saturday, November 19. The convention will be a hybrid event – voting clergy and delegates can attend either in person at Christ Church Cathedral, or virtually via Zoom.


Important dates and deadlines


  • September 19: Registration opens
  • September 20: (60 days prior): Deadline for proposed Constitution/Canonical changes
  • October 5: (45 days prior): Deadline for proposed resolutions; nominations requested
  • November 1: (18 days prior): Deadline for nominations
  • November 2: Pre-convention meeting and Nominee Forum, 6:30 p.m.
  • November 4: Registration closes
  • November 12: (7 days prior): Deadline for 2022 Commission Reports

Nominations for diocesan leadership now open


There are several elected leadership positions for which the Nominating Committee seeks nominees for election at the 148th Annual Convention on Saturday, Nov. 19. Please consider submitting your name for one of the positions to be elected, or, if you know of a member of the diocese, either lay or ordained, who would be well suited for one of the positions, please encourage them to apply. 


A list and description of all available positions is available on the convention website. Nominations are requested by October 5, but the absolute deadline is November 1. The nomination form can be found here. Questions can be directed to Jon B. Boss, chair of the Nominating Committee, at jbboss@fuse.net or (513) 761-2630.

Deep Green Church: Foundations for Ecological Discipleship

On October 8 and 9, All Saints, New Albany will host a weekend event presented by Dr. Collin Cornell and the Rev. Jerry Cappel of the Center For Deep Green Faith. The weekend will include presentations, workshops and worship to deepen understanding of the theology that underpins our work of creation care.


Each person planning to attend must register. The suggested in-person donation is $10 per person. Childcare will be provided. Please register by October 1.

Creation Care Vestry Devotionals available

“Good News to All Creation,” a set of devotionals designed to help vestries begin their meetings with a brief time of reflection and prayer, is now available for download. Developed by the Diocese of Southern Ohio’s Creation Care and Environmental Task Force and the Faith-in-Life Committee in partnership with the Center for Deep Green Faith, the devotionals begin in September with the Season of Creation, and follow the liturgical seasons from Advent through Easter.

Interfaith Youth Gatherings with Cincinnati Kids4Peace 

Do you want to spend. time with friends? Make. new friends? Eat snacks, learn, and grow together? Then come join us as we build community around love and understanding. You can identify with any faith, religion, spirituality, or none at all. All teens are welcome.


"Kids4Peace is a way to first make friends and then become more aware and educated on different types of people," Shanaz, a Kids4Peace participant, says.

Transformations CDC Tutors Needed 

Transformations CDC, an organization founded by Church of Our Saviour/La Iglesia de Nuestro Salvador, Cincinnati, provides after-school program for children from Spanish-speaking households.The program is in need of volunteers to help children with their homework on Monday evenings from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Volunteers must complete Safe Church Training. Sacred Conversations: Policing the Police

Philip Stinson, JD, PhD, professor of criminal justice at Bowling Green State University, will be the speaker at the September meeting of Sacred Conversations taking place on Zoom September 13 at 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sacred Conversations is a group formed in 2016 by multiple Columbus-area congregations to talk about racial justice. Everyone is welcome to join.


Dr. Stinson's primary area of research is police behaviors, including police crime, police corruption, and police misconduct. Through a grant from the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) at the U.S. Department of Justice, he has created a national database tracking police who have been disciplined and/or terminated, yet been hired in another police department.

Ohio Open Doors at Grace, College Hill

Grace Church College Hill

Grace Church, College Hill, and The Oasis at Grace are proud to participate in Ohio Open Doors, a project of the Ohio History Connection, celebrating historical buildings and fascinating places across the state.


Grace Church, 5501 Hamilton Ave. in Cincinnati, will open its doors to friends and neighbors on Wednesday, Sept. 14 from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. and on Sunday, Sept. 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Activities will include music, refreshments, a tour of the building, a fair of community partners and conversation about the spirituality and practices of the Episcopal Church.

Red Door Community Concert

The first concert of the second season of Red Door Community Concerts at Holy Trinity, Oxford, will be held Friday, September 16, at 12:15 p.m. Music for violin, cello and piano from Baroque to the present will be performed by Trio Apéritif: Phillip Roberts, piano; Anne Misener, violin; and Michael Ronstadt, cello.


The free concerts are open to the public and also available for viewing on the church’s YouTube channel. All concerts are held from 12:15 to 1 p.m., and masks are recommended.

Organ dedication and concert at St. Patrick's

Todd Wilson, head of the Organ Department at The Cleveland Institute of Music and curator of the E.M. Skinner pipe organ at Severance Hall, will perform Friday, September 16 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Patrick’s, Dublin. The concert will dedicate the church’s recently installed pipe organ, a 1966 Schantz instrument refurbished by Peebles-Herzog, Inc. in 2021.


The program will include music by J. S. Bach and Marcel Dupré, as well as works arranged from music by Georges Bizet and Gerre Hancock.The concert is free and open to the public.

Praying and Learning Together: An Interfaith Perspective on Immigration

The Southern Ohio Synod, ELCA, and the Catholic Diocese of Columbus will offer Praying and Learning Together: An Interfaith Perspective on Immigration, on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Gloria Dei Worship Center at Trinity Lutheran Seminary. 


All are welcome to join for an evening of music, hearing testimonies of individuals from Afghanistan, Cuba, and the Congo who have lived the immigration experience, and interfaith speakers sharing their communities’ stands on immigration. Light refreshments will be provided.
