Garden Street Safety Improvement Project

Events This Week

Porter Mobile.jpg

Learn about and discuss the upcoming changes to Garden Street at events today and Thursday!

About the Project

This fall, we're planning to install quick-build separated bicycle lanes and make improvements to existing crosswalks on Garden Street between Huron Avenue and Mason Street. The feedback we've heard so far identified a preferred plan: convert Garden Street to a one-way for vehicles between Huron Avenue and Concord Avenue. Vehicles will travel eastbound (toward Harvard Square), and there will be one-way separated bicycle lanes on each side of the street.

Next Community Meeting: Today (September 20)

Today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., we will hold our fourth community meeting on Zoom.

During the meeting, we will:

  • Present the preferred layout for Garden Street ("Option 3" from the last meeting), including a change to one-way vehicle traffic between Huron Avenue and Concord Avenue.
  • Explain planned changes for each section of the project, including at intersections
  • Discuss the implementation timeline
  • Give you an opportunity to ask questions and provide additional feedback

Open House: September 22

In addition to the fourth community meeting, we will hold an open house on Thursday, September 22 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the plaza at the Garden Street/Concord Avenue intersection.

Information shared at this open house will include only what is discussed at the September 20 meeting: no new information will be shared. Instead, community members will be able to drop by in-person to talk to city staff and view plans.
