SETTLED SEARCH TEAM UPDATE

We have been meeting weekly since July to plan our road to a new settled minister, and you will begin to see the results of that planning very soon. On Sunday, September 11th, we will be conducting the worship service, a service which will explore the themes of ministry and community and, most importantly, the role we all play in both. SUBMITTING JOYS AND SORROWS

Please send your joys or sorrows to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org any time before the Joys and Sorrows portion of the service. They will be read aloud.
CELEBRATING ROSE ST. CLAIR!

This is our last Sunday with Rose St. Clair, who served as our Coordinator of Religious Exploration and Engagement for the past year, working nonstop to nourish the hungry hearts and minds of our congregation's kids and families. Rose is excited to begin the next stage in their life, as a full time social worker, but they will be missed here at UUCUC! Come join us in celebrating Rose and the work they have done with our RE&E programs this past year this Sunday, with a special all-ages goodbye in our worship service, followed by cupcakes and a chance to write notes of thanks and well-wishes during Fellowship Hour.
RETURN TO THE SANCTUARY THIS SUNDAY, AUGUST 28!

Beginning with the Water Celebration service on Sunday, August 28, we'll be returning to our beloved Sanctuary space for worship services. Please come and join us and view the recent A/V upgrades that include:

  • Clearer, brighter picture than our current projection onto the wall
  • Symmetrical displays, so video is equally visible no matter which side of the Sanctuary you are on
  • Clear, real-time display of the service for those seated in the back of the Sanctuary
  • Reduced video signal delay meaning better audio/video synchronization
  • Greater centralized control making it easier for the A/V staff and volunteers

We hope to see you this Sunday!
CHILDREN'S RE&E & NURSERY WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE DURING THE SERVICE THIS SUNDAY!

This Sunday's service is a multigenerational service so families and children of all ages are invited to participate in the service together.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!
Your contributions and support allow us to continue to respond with love and resources to the needs in our congregation and the wider community. We couldn’t do it without your support and we are grateful to each of you.

  • Online Donations
  • If you prefer mailing a check, please mail the check to the UUCUC office at 309 West Green Street, Urbana, Illinois 61801.
FELLOWSHIP HOUR
Join us at 11:30 (or immediately following the service) for an in-person fellowship with coffee, beverages, treats, and good conversation on UUCUC's South Lawn.
As of Thursday, August 25, 2022, the COVID-19 transmission level in Champaign County is HIGH. That means masks will be required in UUCUC's building for all activities until the transmission level drops to Medium or Low. When In-Person Fellowship Hour is scheduled, it will also be moved outside as the weather permits. Please visit this link for UUCUC's current COVID Safety Guidelines.

JOYS AND SORROWS sent to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org for last Sunday, August 21, 2022.

From Anonymous: Things are very very hard for me, and for those who are intertwined with my situation in complicated ways.

From Brandy Barter-Storm: 6 weeks ago I shared a sorrow that an embryo transfer did not take. Today I can share a joy that I am 1 weeks pregnant as a surrogate for two lovely, married gentlemen from Spain who are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their first child. I’m so excited for them!

From Sam Beshers: Twenty-seven years ago today, we left Boston to drive to Urbana-Champaign for a two year stay.

From Jerry Carden & Tim Temple: we are enjoying the service while in a cozy cottage on the shore of Lake Michigan. Thanks to all the service speakers this morning, and the tech folks who make the broadcast possible to enjoy from a distance.

From Becky Densmore: Sending so much love and joy to every classroom teacher including our own RE & E volunteers and leaders preparing to shape young minds and our future.

From the Herzog Family: Our middle kiddo had gender-affirming top surgery this week and is doing very well in the recovery phase so far. We celebrate this important step for them and are so incredibly grateful for the love and support of our UUC community who have shown up in countless ways throughout this process. We also celebrate having Jonah home with us after his month in Europe and before he moves to Minneapolis. These are precious days when we have all three kids around to fill the Herzog nest.

From Barbara Hudgings: This Tuesday, 23rd, my oldest granddaughter, Jade, will turn 18. She also will leave for college (Rensselaer Polytech Institute) that same day.

From Cameron & Michelle Pitcel: Sorrow for our friend & colleague whose visa was delayed, even after being in the US for over a decade, and was forced to self deport. We pray she had a safe trip and is able to return back home very soon.
Please send your joys or sorrows to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org any time before the Joys and Sorrows portion of the service. They will be read aloud.
GIVING AND GRATITUDE
UUCUC Social Action Offering. Each month a selected organization is chosen to receive offerings from our congregation. You may donate to the social action offering for the month in one of the following ways:

SOCIAL ACTION OFFERING FOR AUGUST 2022
The Education Justice Project (EJP) is the UUCUC Shared Offering organization for August.

The Education Justice Project (EJP) is a college-in-prison program based at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. EJP offers college courses for credit, as well as extracurricular activities, at Danville Correctional Center, a medium-security men’s prison about 45 miles from the Urbana-Champaign campus.

EJP offers upper-division courses that students can take to earn University of Illinois credit. These credits can be applied towards certificates or, upon release, to bachelor’s degree programs. Our other programs at the prison include workshops, a library, a student newsletter, and a mindfulness group, among others.

In addition to our work in the prison, EJP works to support people leaving prison and reentering society. Our Reentry Guide Initiative produces guides and other resources and distributes them to incarcerated individuals, family members, and service agencies across the state and beyond.

Finally, EJP advocates for systems-involved people and the expansion of higher education in prison throughout the state and nation. We host campus and community events, and have a scholarship program. Several EJP members are on the Illinois Higher Education in Prison Task Force, which seeks to advise and recommend the Illinois General Assembly on the expansion of higher education in prison in Illinois.
