Reflection from our Co-Pastors - July 21, 2022

Reverend Jane shares her homily from this last Sunday. You can hear see Rev. Jane present her homily via the recorded video below.

You might have noticed that we use the word “Beloved” more often in our prayers together. It is a way of experiencing Christ that is of the heart and of reciprocal intention. I am beloved by God and God is beloved by me. We are Beloved by God and God seeks our Belovedness.

Today’s gospel revolves around three main characters, all of them Beloved. While the passage talks about only 3 people, we understand from the context of Jesus’ time that there were multiple men and women present, and most likely children, maybe running around and being shushed. And within that same context the women and men had clearly defined roles, cultural norms that work to keep this oppressed people together and give them hope. These are important cultural norms.

This story from the very first breaks with those norms when, with Jesus knocking, it is Martha who opens the door. At that time, a woman never would never open the door. Martha is the beginning of this message, opening the door to Jesus, and the end of this message, the last to be spoken to by Jesus. It seems the lesson is for Martha.........

This Sunday Outdoor Mass and

Sack-Dinner Picnic at 5 pm

Mass will be on the south side of the building. Bring a lawn chair for comfort (We will have chairs available if you don't have one to bring) Masks are encouraged.

Please bring a sack lunch/dinner for your family and our Hospitality Ministry will provide drinks and dessert. Come and enjoy time to socialize after our outdoor Mass - with new and old Mary of Magdala friends.

A New Parish Directory is Coming -- and we need your photo!

We are in the process of creating an online directory (and print-on-demand) for members of Mary of Magdala. What makes this a real benefit to all is that changes can be real-time and can be updated directly by each member or an administrator.

But in order to finish we need your picture!!

Currently, all the photos that David Cloyd took (now 2 years ago?) have been included. David will be at the social this Sunday with his camera to take portrait pictures of couples, families and/or individuals. So tap David on the shoulder after mass and he will take care of the rest.

We hope to 'publish' soon.
