Semiannual Water System Flush
From July 7 through
July 27, 2022

If you get your water from the City of West Palm Beach or from the county's Water Utilities Department, you may notice a change in taste and smell starting on July 7. No reason to freak out, the water is safe to drink.

The change in taste and smell are caused by the use of free chlorine as opposed to chloramine, which is normally used to treat the water. It is all part of the annual preventative maintenance that these utilities are performing through July 27.

It is recommend that customers who are sensitive to this change, keep an open container of drinking water refrigerated for a few hours allowing the chlorine to dissipate. Users of home dialysis machines, owners of tropical fish and managers of stores and restaurants with fish and shellfish holding tanks are advised to seek professional guidance for removing chlorine residuals.

This process will not affect customers in Belle Glade, Pahokee and South Bay.

IF YOU GET WATER FROM THE COUNTY:
Anyone needing more information on this temporary change, please call the Water Utilities Department at (561) 740-4600, and select option #1.

IF YOU GET YOUR WATER FROM THE CITY:
Should you need more information on this temporary change in the water treatment process, please call the City of West Palm Beach Public Utilities Department at (561) 822-2210.
