Northwest High girls basketball makes Senior Night extra special

On December 5, Northwest High School girls basketball celebrated Senior Night, and had a very special surprise for one senior.

Sam Rivas suffered an injury just before the start of the season, ending her high school basketball playing career much sooner than she hoped. However, the Lady Texans made sure Sam got the moments every player dreams of on Senior Night. She was introduced with the starting lineups, took the court with her teammates for the opening tip against Euless Trinity and there were smiles all around in Texan Gym.

"Sam is such a huge part of our team and the culture we are trying to build," said NHS head coach Lindsey Pouncy. "She deserves any recognition we can get her."

Curtis Elementary students come together in unique way

A group of fifth graders at Lizzie Curtis Elementary ran into a problem this fall, and with the help of a teacher who went the extra mile, they have solved their problem and added some fun to campus that all classes will enjoy now and in the future.

What was the problem? A group of approximately 15 students realized they shared a passion for soccer, but Curtis Elementary didn’t have any soccer goals. They came to Ruthie Keys, a fifth-grade teacher, with their dilemma, and from there the ball was rolling.

Read the full story to learn more about how Mrs. Keys and the students all went the extra mile to bring some extra fun to Curtis Elementary.

Help restock immediate needs in the NEF Resource Store and Library

The Northwest ISD Education Foundation’s resource store and library provides support to NISD teachers and students through free resources and educational materials. NISD teachers can “shop” for school and classroom supplies, snack packs, books and more. All items are free to district educators! This school year, NEF has served more than 940 educators from across the district!

You can help by donating from the store’s online wishlist. Immediate needs include picture and holiday books, snacks, pencil boxes, rulers, calculators, index cards and clipboards.
