The Environmental and Maintenance Committee (E&MC) met online Thursday, September 8.

The E&MC is looking for new committee members. If you would like to be a part of E&MC, please contact Larry Tipton (tiptonlarryd@gmail.com). Members Laura Thompson and Allan Heasty have finished their terms of service this month; Laura and Allan – thank you so much for your dedicated service to the community!

The committee was provided an update from the August Board of Directors Meeting. The SRC pool project is progressing, with trees being taken down, and excavation will be the next phase of the project to take place. At this time the project is still on schedule. The Thacker/Celebrations development was discussed and was also on the Environmental and Maintenance Committee meeting agenda.

The Maintenance Team provided project updates.

-         Walkways have been cleaned and cleared at Rock Harbor

-         New benches have been installed along Woodlake trails

-         Entrance at Bent Creek has been improved for better drainage

-         New bulletin board installed at AFC

-         Entry signs at all neighborhoods have been cleaned

-         Up-lighting installed at Hull Street entrance flag poles

-         Irrigation automation is being installed at neighborhood entrances

-         Orders for new trees has been placed to replace old/dying trees at neighborhood entrances

-         12 neighborhood entrances will be renovated

The committee extended a rousing thank you to the Woodlake Maintenance Team for their efforts and execution of the Labor Day Party. Many noted that this was the best this event has been in years. From the fireworks display to the management and execution of the event overall. The time and effort the team put in was noted and greatly appreciated.

The geese population was another topic discussed at the meeting. As noted in last week’s Digest, the association will be implementing a number of strategies to encourage the geese to choose another location to gather. It was noted that the single best remedy to discourage geese is not to feed them. Please don’t feed the geese was a message that needs to shared frequently with residents.

Agenda Items:

Thacker/Celebrations Development – The committee expressed interest in being involved with the Association’s efforts to protect Woodlake’s interest as the development goes through the county planning and zoning process. The E&MC will coordinate with the Board of Directors liaison team to synchronize Woodlake’s feedback and influence with the developers and Chesterfield County.

Invasive Plants – This project is progressing. A sub committee has been established to further document and suggest remedies for invasive plants in the common areas. An update will be provided at the next E&MC meeting.

Trail Benches – A policy is being developed to address requests for Memorial Benches that could be placed throughout the community. A draft proposal was presented by GM Bailey and feedback and suggestions were provided by the committee.

Amenities Survey Review – The General Manager thanked the committee for their report on the Amenities Survey that was completed last year. The report was prepared and presented to the GM to provide recommendations on various amenities and related budget priorities. The report will now be incorporated into the 2023 Budget as a support document.

Lifestyle Services is looking to start a Care Helpers group here at Woodlake.

You will not be a caretaker, but a care helper. A Care Helper will be on a main list with their phone number for Lifestyle Services to have and keep. We will facilitate the calls to individuals that have reached out to us and need some extra help. A Care Helper can do anything from getting them groceries, to taking them to doctor appointments, to just sitting with them while their caregiver gets out to have a break.

Everyone’s situation will be different. We will also offer a paid CPR and First Aid class for any Care Helper that feels more comfortable having it when working in a resident’s home. Please let Jenny DeLorenzo know if you are interested in being a Care Helper. Please also let Jenny know if you need some assistance with someone you are the caregiver for. You will not have to work daily, unless that is what you want, and the resident needs. Jenny will compile a list of Care Helpers with days and times they are willing to help if needed. Another form will go out to caregivers to fill out and send back to Jenny to match with a Care Helper. If you have any questions, please contact Jenny at jennyd@woodlakeonline.com.

Lifestyle Services is looking for engaging speakers on engaging topics.

Please contact Jenny DeLorenzo at jennyd@woodlakeonline.com if you know of someone that would be a great presenter, or if you would enjoy engaging with other residents on a topic.

Please register ASAP if you want to participate. Complete Events Calendar and details HERE

Fall Food Drive for Local Food Pantries

Dates: September 1 - 17, 2022

Woodlake United Methodist Church (UMC) is sponsoring a Fall Food Drive to collect nonperishable foods to restock the shelves of the Belmont Food Pantry, administered by Belmont Community Resource Services (BCRS). The Belmont Food Pantry, a FeedMore partner, has served the south Richmond and eastern Chesterfield County areas since 2004. They currently provide fresh and nonperishable foods to 350 to over 400 families every week. These numbers have grown steadily in recent months, as families struggle with increased cost of food, housing, and transportation. To serve so many families in need of food, the pantry depends heavily on community donations. Woodlake UMC partners with BCRS to support this important work to reduce hunger in our local communities.
