Save Our Schools:  Stop Voucher Expansion

Saturday, September 10, 3 p.m.

Via Zoom

Beth Lewis, co-executive director and Christina Vazquez, Southern Arizona Coordinator of Save Our Schools Arizona will provide an overview of the petition drive to repeal the universal voucher legislation that was signed into law this past session.  The voucher bill undermines Arizona public education and diverts funds to private and religious schools.

In addition to our speakers from SOSAZ, Rachel DelRocco Terrazas the Field Organizer for Pima County will be presenting Mission for Arizona strategies, with a focus on how we get Democrats elected in Arizona in 2022. Mission for Arizona is the dedicated campaign organization for all Democrats in Arizona.

Call to Action
Protect Public Schools--Sign the Petition!

The Arizona legislature has passed a "universal voucher bill" (HB2853) which was signed into law by Governor Ducey on the last day of this session. This bill makes every school-age child in Arizona eligible for a voucher to attend a private or religious school. Our tax dollars will be diverted from our already underfunded public education system to this expanded voucher program.

Public school advocacy groups immediately began a petition drive for a "citizens' veto" which would put the measure on hold until a vote in November, 2024. Enough signatures must be collected by September 24th of this year.

Petitions are now available at Headquarters for your signature. This is a new petition--so even if you signed petitions previously at HQ, this was not among them. More information about the legislation and petition is available on our website at:

Poll Monitors Needed!

Election Protection is back!  We need volunteers willing to step up to become poll monitors, people who will have the knowledge and the empathy to support our communities through what could be a confusing or stressful time. Join the Election Protection AZ team as a poll monitor and we’ll give you the knowledge and the skills to be one of the helpers that can make a difference in someone’s voting experience. There will be trainings in September and October to get everyone ready for Election Day. You don’t need any previous experience to join. Sign up now!

You can learn more about Election Protection AZ and other volunteer opportunities at their website.
