CWCF is seeking nominees for two awards: the Worker Co-op Best Practices Award, and the Mark Goldblatt Worker Co-op Merit Award. 

CWCF Among Organizations to Receive Funding to Deliver the Investment Readiness Program

This CWCF project will provide a pathway through which underrepresented groups can buy out viable businesses from existing owners and convert them into social purpose organizations (SPOs) owned by and serving local equity-deserving groups. The main goals of this project are to identify potential social acquisition opportunities and reach out to equity-deserving groups to share these opportunities; and provide information about resources to facilitate the social acquisition process and ensure these projects are ready for scaling up and future investment.

Co-ops Can Lead the Race to Zero

At the recent CMC (Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada) Congress in Calgary, delegates approved a resolution committing Canada’s co-operative sector to adopt the UN’s Race to Zero, a global pact which mandates signatories to achieve net zero in emissions by 2050 at the latest, and to commit to at least a 50% reduction in emissions by 2030.

  • Impact of Covid-19 on Canadian Co-operatives and Mutuals. In association with Institut de recherche et d’éducation pour les coopératives et les mutuelles de l’Université de Sherbrooke and the International Centre for Co-operative Management of Saint Mary’s University, CMC is proud to present the results of a survey report, which outlines the impact of COVID-19 on co-operatives and mutuals within Canada during the first 18 months of the pandemic.

  • Survey on the ICA Statement on the Cooperative Identity. In 1995, the International Cooperative Alliance adopted the Statement on the Cooperative Identity. Subsequently recognized by many governments and multilateral organizations, and incorporated within the ICA’s own statutes, the Statement defines the cooperative business model, makes explicit the cooperative and ethical values on which it is founded, and sets out seven universal operating principles applicable to cooperatives of all kinds.
  • Enquête sur la déclaration de l'ACI sur l'identité coopérative. En 1995, l'Alliance coopérative internationale a adopté la Déclaration sur l’identité coopérative. Reconnue par la suite par de nombreux gouvernements et de nombreuses organisations multilatérales et inscrite dans les statuts mêmes de l’ACI, la Déclaration explicite la coopérative et les valeurs éthiques sur lesquelles elle est fondée et énonce sept principes de fonctionnement universels applicables aux coopératives de tous genres.
  • How Employee-Owned Businesses Could Shake Up Canada's Business Scene.
  • Recently, The Ministry of Finance launched a review of British Columbia's Co-operative Association Act, the legal framework for incorporating and governing a co-operative. To help co-operatives function efficiently, the province seeks input into the Provincial Co-operative Association Act from our members and the larger BC co-op community on any problems, gaps, uncertainties, or inconsistencies in the Act, as well as any ideas on modernizing or reforming the legislation.
