Phew! You made it through the first three weeks of classes. We know this time can be stressful, but we hope you are settling in and feeling more confident as time goes on. If you need help, though, do not be afraid to advocate for yourself and ask for the help you deserve. Stay prepared, organized and engaged. You’ve got this!

New Director in Town

The Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences’ Student Success Center has a new director in town: Kaitlyn Armon. Armon came to the University of Oklahoma from Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina, and she began her new position as the director of the Student Success Center on Aug. 15, 2022. Her previous position at Coastal Carolina University was the director of student success, recruitment, and career transition. Her professional background consists of veteran services, admissions, advising, and student success. Armon practices holistic student success, meaning, she cares about her students’ personal, academic and professional wellbeing. In her spare time, she likes to spend time in nature (or a restaurant) with her husband or hang out with her pets on the couch with an episode of the Vampire Diaries. She is very excited to be at OU and to serve the students of the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences. Be on the lookout for new events, new social media presence, new opportunities, new professional development and so much more. Boomer Sooner!

Events

Interested in learning elements of game and app design with other video game lovers, while building valuable software and app development skills? Join Level-up League, a weekly meetup of OU faculty, researchers, students of all backgrounds and majors and community members to design and develop a video game from scratch. Both multi-person teams and solo developers are welcome.

The Sooner Showcase Career Fair is the largest recruiting event at OU and the ideal place for students to learn about internships and full-time job opportunities. Get an early start for summer and post-graduation employment while networking with any of the over 140 organizations that will attend! The career fair is free and open to all OU students and alumni.

Annual Study Abroad Fair


Join us from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at the South Oval. Learn about study abroad programs all over the world! Program advisers and partners will be available to answer questions and share information about study abroad programs. We will have food and swag for anyone who stops by!


Spring Study Abroad Fair


The deadline to apply for Spring 2023 is coming at the end of September-early October (varies by program). Attend a Study Abroad 101 session to start your application! Here are some program highlights for Spring 2023:

Withrow Leadership Scholars


Withrow Leadership Scholars is a highly prestigious program aimed at recognizing and rewarding the college's brightest students. The Leadership Scholars host    bi-monthly educational meetings concerning leadership, service and community. Applicants must have a 3.25 cumulative GPA, and may be eligible for an annual scholarship of $1,500. The deadline to apply is Sept. 14th.

Internship Opportunities


American Fidelity is a supplemental benefits provider with headquarters in Oklahoma City. They are looking to fill a part-time internship in their business analysis department. The intern will be responsible for helping with new and existing projects, aiding in the creation of analytical deliverables and assisting in facilitating project team discussions with business and technical audiences.


Paid, $22 per hour. 


Application deadline: Oct. 30. 

The Paseo Arts Association is a non-profit organization aimed at presenting and preserving the arts in Oklahoma City. They are seeking an associate intern to assist in public relations and marketing, the Paseo Arts Festival, grants and fundraising, gallery membership and more! This internship will demand 8-10 hours per week, for about 3-6 months. 


Paid, $300 yearly stipend 


Application deadline: Sept. 16.

Allied Arts raises awareness of local art, mobilizes support and privately funds arts education programs in Oklahoma. They are seeking an intern to assist in various campaigns and local programs related to art and the community. Interns might be expected to use Canva and Constant Contact for graphic design, or represent Allied Arts at nonprofit fairs and booths. The duties range from clerical to creative.

Sagac Public Affairs provides communications, research, fundraising and management solutions to governors, congressmen, Fortune 100 companies and trade associations across the nation. They are seeking an copywriter intern to enhance the company's creative services and assist the full-time copywrite team in various ways.  


Paid, $12 per hour.

Griffin Media is an Oklahoma-owned multimedia company. They gather, market and distribute news, weather, entertainment and sports content through multiple local channels and platforms. They need an intern to assist in the News-9 Newsroom. The intern will learn the basics behind producing, reporting, interviewing, writing, recording and other newsroom duties.  


Unpaid, college credit only.

Devon Energy Corporation is a leading independent oil and natural gas exploration and production company, headquartered in Oklahoma City. They are looking to fill an internship in their marketing department. The intern will be responsible for contract administration, commodity market analysis, project management, logistics and other business-related assignments.

Career Opportunities

Oklahoma City Thunder is seeking to hire a new marketing associate. The basketball organization needs someone who is a fan of the sport, the city and business. In this role, you will assist with game night and event duties, implement grassroot initiatives, engage youth basketball events, lead community appearances, manage community spotlight programs, assist in data collection and perform various other duties. This position is perfect for sports fans and business majors looking to get a foot in the industry.

$10 per hour

High Five Media Group is an advertising, public relations and marketing firm located in Edmond. They are looking to hire a web and graphic designer to create websites and graphics for their clients. Responsibilities for the position include various web and print projects, domain support and troubleshooting. The position is full-time, so expect to work around 40 hours per week. Applicants should have their bachelor's degree in a related field and be proficient with graphic design programs.

Air Force Materiel Command develops, acquires and sustains the aerospace power for the Air Force. They are now hiring a child and youth program assistant. The position provides care, supervision, oversight and accountability for the program participants. The duties for the position include preparation of age-appropriate activities, coordinating field trips, outings and special events, and assisting in various other ways. The position is located at Tinker Air Force Base. 


$16.70 - $17.25 per hour.

T & D Solutions is a full-service event marketing firm specialized in overcoming the limitations of mass marketing campaigns and creating personalized brand awareness. They are looking for a public relations assistant to aid the public relations manager in scheduling events, conducting research and more. Applicants should be pursuing a bachelor's degree in public relations, communications or journalism, and be proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Griffin Media Group is also hiring for the full-time position of sports multimedia journalist and producer. The position is at the KWTV station in Oklahoma City. It demands an independent and ambitious sense of journalism, as applicants will be expected to shoot, write, edit and perform on-air presentations of sports stories. The position requires a fundamental understanding of journalistic writing, as well as recording and editing audio and video to broadcasting standards.

Important Advising Information


Please be aware that advisors will be blocked out for the next two weeks to review the status of fall graduation candidates (Tuesday, 9/6 - Friday, 9/16). After that, they begin advising for the spring 2023 semester. Seniors should arrange appointments as soon as possible. 


Also, please note that the the CASH applications for scholarships and financial aid opens Oct. 1st for the 2023 academic year.
