10:00 AM Holy Eucharist at St. Stephen's

Dear friends,
“We praise you and we bless you, holy and gracious God, source of life abundant. From before time you made ready the creation. Your Spirit moved over the deep and brought all things into being: sun, moon, and stars; earth, winds, and water; and every living thing.” (Enriching Our Worship, Eucharistic Prayer 2)
Eucharistic Prayer C in our Book of Common Prayer has this language: “At your command all things came to be: the vast expanse of interstellar space, galaxies, suns, the planets in their courses, and this fragile earth, our island home.” (The Book of Common Prayer, Eucharistic Prayer C)
Those were some of the words in our liturgy that came to mind this week when the stunning images of the James Webb Space Telescope were revealed. If you haven’t seen them yet, take a look at NASA’s website: https://www.nasa.gov/webbfirstimages They are astounding, thought provoking, beautiful, and mystical. God never ceases to surprise and inspire!
The images also reminded me of another little bit of wisdom given by Anthony de Mello, a Jesuit priest, in his book One Minute Wisdom called DISCOVERY.
“Help us find God.”
“No one can help you there.”
“Why not?”
“For the same reason that
no one can help the fish
find the ocean.”
I am definitely looking forward to seeing more from the James Webb Space Telescope!
Blessings and peace,
Karen+

I had hoped to
redirect the birds who've
been nesting over
the front door; it hasn't
worked yet. We've got 2
nests now, a wee
black phoebe and, I
suspect, a red-breasted
finch, though I haven't seen
our new tenant yet. I'll
try to install a
board to keep their mess
off the window; but
life will find a way.
-- Jessica Dickinson Goodman
We have our 9am - 12pm Saturday morning community garden work party and hope you can come!

Family Outing
Friday Aug 5 trip to Angel Island
|
|
Golden Gate Transit Ferry from San Francisco to Angel Island departs at 10:25 am for $28.00 round trip (ages 13-64), $14 (ages 65+), $15.20 (ages 6-12).
On Angel Island there is a guided tour for $7.00, children 5-17 $5.00. There is a shuttle which traverses the island for $12.00. Bring a picnic lunch. Dinner will be at the Ferry building upon our return about 5:00 pm. Family and friends are welcome! Reply to Janet to arrange car pools.
The United States Immigration Station Museum on Angel Island is a beautifully restored structure offering a window into a very important time in the history of Pacific Coast immigrants. The Station, operating from 1910-1940, served as the main immigration processing center for hundreds of thousands of immigrants from all over the world looking to start a new life in America. A direct result of the passage of the Chinese Exclusion Act in 1882, the U.S. Immigration Station detained immigrants while they endured interrogations, medical exams; sometimes for no reason other than their national origin.
Today, the United States Immigration Station serves as a museum dedicated to interpreting and making connections between the experiences of those who made the journey to America over 100 years ago and the continuing story of immigration in America today. The museum is open Wednesday to Sunday for general admission for a fee and is operated by the staff of Angel Island State Park.

NEEDING PRAYER SUPPORT?
Prayer is one of those things we often think about, might feel inadequate about, believe in but might be unsure how to proceed. How we pray is sometimes unique to each of us. The Church provides help in many ways. If you find yourself in need, of any kind (emotional, physical, spiritual, guidance, etc) consider how St. Stephen's can support you:
* there is a prayer chain of committed pray-ers (who maintain confidentiality).
* tell people about your answers to prayer! and the miracles you witness, or how prayer changes YOU.
Please submit prayer requests to Rev. Karen.
