Dear Centenary Family,
I’m excited about worshiping with you this Sunday. The Gospel reading and sermon text is from Luke 17:11-19. It is the story of Jesus healing ten lepers on the borderland between Galilee and Samaria. (We’ll talk some Sunday why this geographical location is theologically significant). One leper, a Samaritan, returns to give Jesus thanks. Over the years, this has become one of my favorite texts. I’ll try to share why in my sermon this Sunday which is entitled, Would You Rather Be Healed or Saved?
Our first hymn this Sunday may become one of my favorites. It is entitled O Christ, the Healer. (click link for lyrics) It’s a beautiful prayer seeking God’s healing power and presence in all the different ways and dimensions we and our world need God’s healing. I’d invite you to spend some time with this text before worship Sunday, and to come expecting that in some measure, we all experience the healing power of Jesus Christ.
I look forward to worshiping with you Sunday—and to seeing many of you at Rise Against Hunger tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. and at our Chili Cook-off on October 23!
Peace,
Matt
