Hello Rolesville!

I hope everyone is staying safe and cool in the heat lately. It was nice to see everyone at our Town's Juneteenth celebration earlier this month and I look forward to seeing everyone again at our July 4th event.

I know we're seeing a lot of construction along Main Street. The Main Street Project is a $23 million investment in the future of Rolesville’s downtown, creating a safer, walkable, more successful, and more attractive Main Street for residents, businesses and visitors. Please bear with us and remember that all Rolesville businesses will remain open and accessible throughout the project.

And congratulations to all of our Rolesville High School graduates! Best wishes to wherever your journey takes you next!

Rolesville Fire Department Signs Unification Resolution with Town

On Tuesday, June 4, leaders of the Town of Rolesville and the Rolesville Rural Fire Department (RRFD) signed a unification resolution to begin the formal process of merging the fire department with the town.

During the past three years, both had been meeting collaboratively to discuss the benefits, concerns, challenges, and opportunities of a merger. They created a Unification Committee comprised of town staff, fire department members, and a third-party consultant, NC Fire Chief Consulting to draft the resolution.

The resolution is an informal document that commits to the effort of unification and initiates the establishment of a formal agreement to solidify the unification of the RRFD and the Town by the proposed target date of July 1, 2025.

Juneteenth Celebration

On June 15th, Mayor Currin attended the Town's Juneteenth Celebration event at Mill Bridge Nature Park. We were delighted to welcome around 100 attendees, all of whom contributed to the vibrant atmosphere of the celebration. The artists and vendors were exceptional, and their contributions were greatly appreciated by everyone present. Many citizens commented on how they had not realized what a wonderful and expansive park we have in our community.

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. A combination of the words “June” and “nineteenth,” Juneteenth commemorates Union Major General Gordon Granger’s reading of the General Order Number 3 in the City of Galveston, Texas freeing enslaved people on June 19, 1865. The reading of General Order Number 3 came two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln enacted the Emancipation Proclamation on September 22, 1862. News and enforcement of the proclamation had been slow to reach remote areas of the United States.

Today, Juneteenth celebrates African American freedom and achievement, while encouraging continuous self-development and respect for all cultures.
