WEATHER ANNOUNCEMENT

(OFFICE CLOSED JANUARY 12)

There is more potentially treacherous weather on the way, including snow and sub-zero temps. Exercise caution when deciding whether or not to come to church. This is one of the reasons we offer livestream worship and Adult Education.

Hello, Bailey-

Our Exodus Bible study begins today, Thursday, January 11!

You have two options to join:

  • in person at 10:30am for no more than 90 minutes
  • via Zoom at 6:30pm for no more than 60 minutes (join the meeting HERE)

Each session stands alone, so come whenever you’re available. Come to one or all or whatever works for you. You’ll get to learn a little more about God’s word and you’ll get to connect with some good people. If you have a Bible, please bring it. If you don't, you can borrow one for in-person classes and use a Bible app for online classes.

If you have never been to a Bible study, please come! This gathering is beginner friendly.

As Christians, it’s vital that we regularly nourish ourselves by reading and wrestling with God’s word, and it’s vital that we make space to be with each other. If you can’t make the Bible study, I hope you’ll read Exodus this month.

In other news, I want to say THANK YOU (at least sixty times) for all the love and kindness and generosity I experienced from my birthday-fiesta-fundraiser last Sunday!

About 150 people crammed into Bradfield and we enjoyed delicious Mexican food from El Pastor Restaurant (yes, it’s really called El Pastor!). People were asked for donations of 60 cents in honor of my 60th birthday. Some people gave more, and it looks like we have received over $5,000 (in person and online) to contribute to The River Food Pantry, to help feed hungry people in our area. Thanks be to God.

At the end of the fiesta, several people took home leftovers and then I brought the remaining food to The Beacon, a shelter on East Washington Avenue, for people experiencing homeless.

I’m glad to be at a church where we nourish ourselves with God’s word and with celebrations, so that we can help feed a hungry world, with food and funds, with compassion and kindness, with courage, justice, and love.

On the journey together,

Charlie

Adult Education

Join us Sunday (January 14) at 10:00am as we continue our overview of the book of Exodus, led by Covenant member John Strikwerda. In January, Covenant is reading the book of Exodus. We will walk through Exodus discussing the storyline and how this epic journey fits into the larger biblical story. Along the way, we will uncover the many parallels to Genesis and reflect on how our current lives mirror the Exodus narrative.

All classes meet in person and online at youtube.com/c/CovenantPresbyterianChurch. Visit covenantmadison.org/adult for more info on Adult Education at Covenant.

IN-PERSON ADULT ED WILL BE HELD IN THE SANCTUARY THIS WEEK DUE TO ANTICIPATED LOW ATTENDANCE

Fiesta Update - The River Food Pantry

We had a wonderful birthday-fiesta-fundraiser for Pastor Charlie’s 60th birthday last Sunday! Together we raised $5,053.52 for The River Food Pantry. Plus, leftovers went to feed hungry people at The Beacon, a shelter on East Washington Ave. THANK YOU! Click HERE to see some pictures from the fiesta.

Our first Spiritual Stroll of 2024 will be held at Picnic Point! These strolls are part of CONNECT, a program of deacon-sponsored events with the intention of fostering connection between Covenant and the community. We visit a different green space every month to explore God’s creation.

As part of Covenant's commitment to becoming a Matthew 25 congregation, the Adult Education Committee encourages members to participate in Nehemiah Center for Urban Leadership Development’s Black History for a New Day course. The course is from February 26-May 6 via Zoom. Covenant will have their own discussion group led by Jennifer Morgan. With generous support from GMB and our longstanding relationship with Nehemiah, the cost will be a reduced $125 and $50 for alumni of the course. Scholarships are also available!
