With just 3 weeks to go until our 10th annual edition of Visual 1st, Oct. 4-5, I’d like to address a question we’re often asked: how do you select the topics and speakers for your conference?
[This is part 1 of a series of 2. Stay tuned for part 2 in which I’ll describe our reasoning behind our Fireside Chat topics and speakers.]
This is what drives our choices:
- We try to include topics that have both technology and business innovation aspects.
- Furthermore, our preference is for topics that involve potential for industry collaboration or partnerships.
- We also seek topics that are trending in mindshare among our attendees – not to jump on the “trend du jour”, but to facilitate informed conversations among industry peers as to if, why and how these trends might matter and should feature in strategic planning.
And here is where things are getting increasingly challenging. I’ll get to this in my keynote, but Alexis and I have never before witnessed quite the fast-evolving carousel of “next big things” rolling in over each other that we’ve seen in the past 12 months.
Remember last year when NFTs were the next big thing?
6 months ago: the Metaverse?
And right now it is generative AI that many observers – yes, including us – believe will have a profound impact on our industry.
Let’s walk you through our choices.
