"Together We Learn"
Superintendent's Message
Dear FJUHSD Community,

Fall is officially in full swing and the first quarter of school will be coming to a close before we know it! It is exciting to attend the many activities at each school site and experience the excitement and energy that is being generated.

Our theme for this month is “Together We Learn.” Inside this month’s newsletter, we are highlighting different ways we learn together. Our work together requires collaboration and a shared vision of seeing our students achieve. When we learn together, we grow together, and we succeed together!

As part of learning together, District administrators are reading and discussing the book, The Big Potential, by Shawn Achor. In his book, Mr. Achor uses an example of lightning bugs coordinating with each other in order to shine brighter. This is a great example of working and learning together to maximize our collaborative efforts. We hope you enjoy this month’s newsletter and our lightning bugs background as we shine brightly together!

For the 2022-23 school year, FJUHSD was approved to implement Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) at Buena Park, Fullerton Union, La Habra, and La Vista High Schools. Parents with students who attend these schools will not be required to complete a lunch application form. Conversely, FJUHSD was not approved for CEP for Sunny Hills, Sonora, and Troy High Schools. While meals will continue to be served to students at no cost at non-CEP schools, the District will be encouraging parents who may qualify for free and reduced meals to complete a 2022-23 lunch application. The District Food Services team is here to support. Please contact us for questions or assistance at (714) 870-2820 or by email at foodservices@fjuhsd.org.
Thank you...

Facilities & Construction Updates
We started the school year by celebrating completion of the LHHS Aquatics Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. In addition, the LHHS Lecture Hall project has been completed. Groundbreaking for the SOHS Aquatics Center is scheduled for October. The HVAC project in the SOHS small gym should be completed by the end of October. Work has begun on the FUHS baseball backstop project and is expected to be completed by the end of October. Work continues on the Fullerton Auditorium Seismic Mitigation project. The scaffold came down and work has started on the exterior concrete and planters. We look forward to a ribbon cutting ceremony and welcoming everyone back into the auditorium soon.
Excellence Among Us
The Fullerton Joint Union High School District is fortunate to be served by many outstanding classified, certificated, supervisory, confidential, management, and administrative staff members. Each month, Human Resources has the honor of showcasing a staff member or members who contributes to our students' support, development, and success, and helps make this District and community exceptional.

This month, Human Resources is proud to recognize District Custodial Supervisors Jimmy Crouch, Rudy Garcia, Jose Paez, Daniel Rodriguez, and Ebaristo Sanchez. Custodial Supervisors are essential to the daily function of each campus they serve. Their contributions come in many forms and add to the experiences of our students on an almost daily basis. Our Custodial Supervisors work with District administrative personnel on activities, events, site projects, and site emergencies, all while supervising, evaluating, instructing, and scheduling custodial and grounds personnel to ensure their site maintains District standards. To promote their continued growth and development, our Custodial Supervisors were invited to attend F.R.I.S.K training hosted by the AALRR law firm on September 8th at Sunny Hills High School. All of the supervisors who attended the training came eager to learn, proving that we learn and succeed together. The knowledge obtained from the training will help establish new relationships and maintain current, effective working relationships.

Thank you to all our Custodial Supervisors for your exceptional service to our staff, students, parents, community, and District! You truly represent the excellence among us.
Training Day: F.R.I.S.K. Edition
Hosted by AALRR Law Corporation
AALRR Partner Alexandria Davidson, hosted District Administrators, Directors, Managers, and Supervisors at the F.R.I.S.K. training held on September 8th. The training provided District management staff with an opportunity to gain knowledge on the process of progressive intervention. The material presented at the training will assist in equipping the District leadership team with the tools necessary to improve and develop employee performance. Together we learn and together we succeed!

Suicide Prevention
During suicide prevention week, students across the District learned about identifying the warning signs of suicide and were given the opportunity to identify their “anchor." Thank you to our mental health partners from the Phoenix House.
Suicide Prevention Lifeline

988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. While some areas may be currently able to connect to the Lifeline by dialing 988, this dialing code will be available to everyone across the United States starting on July 16, 2022.

When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary.
