September 9, 2022
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
As Queens County continues to experience an increase in fatal overdoses, my Office is taking all the necessary steps to combat this alarming trend.

This week, I was joined by NYPD Commissioner Keechant L. Sewell in announcing criminal charges against an accused drug dealer who was indicted for allegedly selling deadly narcotics and at least one loaded firearm in our Borough.

Over the course of six months, the defendant allegedly sold over 1,000 opioid pills laced with fentanyl to an undercover officer - lethal drugs that would have endangered countless individuals on the streets of Queens.

Year-to-date numbers for 2022 indicate 206 suspected fatal overdose cases across Queens County, an estimated 51% increase from the same time last year. An overwhelming majority of these deaths, approximately 77%, have been attributed to fentanyl.

I will not stand for those who sell poison in our communities. My Office will continue it's relentless pursuit of drivers of crime, illegal guns, and deadly narcotics to ensure the safety of every Queens resident.
In Friendship,

Melinda Katz
Queens District Attorney

9/11 Tribute
On Sunday, we will commemorate the somber 21st anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on our soil. Every year since that terrible day, we have come together in unity to remember the thousands of innocent lives lost, and to pay tribute to the countless heroes who've emerged in the wake of this catastrophe.

For many survivors of the attacks, the long term health ailments have been devastating and we must never forget those who perished from 9/11-related illnesses. The U.S. government owes a great debt to anyone who has suffered since that tragic day.

In the depths of those darkest hours, our neighbors and fellow service members performed acts of courage that shaped the course of our recovery, re-affirming the resilience of our city and borough. Though we continue to feel the weight of human tragedy from these attacks, let us remember that no act of terror can ever break the strength of our nation.
Information Wanted
As part of our regular call for help, we are asking for any information regarding the murder of Neshawn Plummer, shot and killed on August 30, 2015 in Far Rockaway.

Help us bring justice on behalf of the victim and his loved ones. If you have any details to report, I urge you to contact NYPD Crimestoppers. All tips are confidential and can be submitted anonymously!
Fall Class of 2022
This week, I welcomed our newest class of Assistant District Attorneys.

Over the new few weeks, they will go through the Incoming Orientation Program - a five week training course consisting of lectures, workshops, and hands-on experience to better introduce them to this Office and our mission.

I look forward to working with each of them in support of the fair administration of justice in Queens County.
Public Safety Town Hall
Public safety is paramount to sustaining the vibrancy of this great Borough and I am determined to facilitate meaningful discussions with members of the communities on the best way forward for Queens County.
Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of joining Mayor Eric Adams, government officials, and local leaders in Rochdale Village for an important conversation with the Southeast Queens communities about safety strategies and solutions. I'd like to thank Ms. Jean Castro, President of Rochdale Village Board of Directors, and Mr. Clifton Stanley-Diaz, Chairman of Rochdale Village Board of Directors, for opening their doors for us to have this conversation.
Senior Appreciation Month
Our senior citizens have paved the way for generations of community members and leaders. They deserve the very best our neighborhoods have to offer.

It is a privilege to honor our seniors by co-sponsoring enriching and entertaining programs throughout the month of September, spearheaded by Senator Leroy Comrie. I hope all of our seniors enjoy Senior Appreciation Month!

All those who are interested in taking advantage may contact the office of Senator Comrie by clicking here.
