As you know from the last FaithConnect, Rev. Andrea Cano completed her time as EMO’s interim president in August. And our board of directors is in the final stages of selecting a new president. Meanwhile, I am once again acting president.
I love wearing hats, though I do think I am wearing too many at the moment, combining my regular duties as vice president for all internal operations with the responsibilities of the president. But we have a great organization, wonderful board leadership, and superb team of directors, managers, and staff -- all contributing to making it a joy to be such an excessive hat-wearer.
In the midst of all this leadership transition, our amazing team of 67 employees, hundreds more volunteers, and scads of donors keep showing up, solving problems, and meeting needs. No matter what happens, people are being settled, fed, housed, rescued, defended, and given legal status. Powers are being spoken to and held accountable. And justice and righteousness keep flowing.

For nearly 50 years, EMO has used our voice to advocate for policies and legislation that help create an Oregon that works for everyone, not just those at the top. Releasing our biannual “Voters’ Guide to 2022 Oregon Ballot Measures” is an important part of this work. We are privileged to provide thoughtful guidance to people of faith and goodwill and help connect current ballot initiatives to deeper values.

Register now for EMO’s 2022 Collins Summit, "Religious Trauma: Understanding the harm and supporting healing"
The Collins Summit will be held on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m., and will be offered as a hybrid event with the option to attend in person at a Portland metro area location TBD or online. The registration fee is $20; no charge for students.
The featured speaker will be Connie A. Baker, MA, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Portland, Ore. In addition to her private practice, Baker has been a counseling instructor at a local university, a seminar teacher, conference speaker, clinical supervisor, writer, trauma recovery specialist, and trained life coach. She is the author of "Traumatized by Religious Abuse: Courage, Hope and Freedom for Survivors."

We had a blast on Tuesday, September 20, at EMO's first gala in almost three years! It was a beautiful night under a big tent celebrating our shared passion for making Oregon a more just and sustainable place. We honored Rev. Andrea Cano, Taylor Stewart of the Oregon Remembrance Project, and the faith leaders of Lift Every Voice Oregon -- Rabbi Michael Cahana, Marilyn Keller and Rev. Dr. Mark Knutson. Thanks to everyone who came out in support.
