Advancing CA Adult Education Model Program

Over the past decade, Torrance Adult School’s (TAS) Adult Basic and Secondary Education program has focused on continuously adapting the program to better meet student needs. Torrance Adult School noticed a decrease in students taking HSE exams, and an increase in students failing the HSE exams. Furthermore, they also noticed that students were taking longer to complete their high school diploma coursework and a decrease in course completions. In order to address these issues, TAS integrated test preparation into credit bearing direct-instruction classes. As they implemented these classes, they noticed that many students faced barriers to accessing these classes.

Seeking input on Noncredit work experience

Mt.SAC in partnership with representatives from the Association of Community and Continuing Education (ACCE), the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges (ASCCC), and the College Internship and Work Experience Association (CIWEA), a small group of noncredit and work experience practitioners has been engaged in initial discussions about implementing noncredit work experience and is seeking input regarding your intentions for noncredit work experience. To that end, your input on this survey will help others to understand the interest in noncredit work experience and what is needed for implementation.
