Everyone is welcome to enjoy music, food, crafts, a silent auction and booths showcasing environmentally-minded organizations in the Coastlove Education Village at Bernstein Park, 6751 5th St., Stock Island from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Group cleanup teams are invited to register in advance to spend the morning cleaning up locations around Stock Island, but everyone can enjoy the celebration in the park.

If the Keys have a slow season for tourism, it’s September. The end of summer is punctuated by the last hoorah of Labor Day weekend. Go to most restaurants down here and you’re likely to see printed signs saying, “back in two weeks” or “see you in October.” Most charters down here get a booking or two a week and if you’re like me you use this time to fish for yourself and really hone your edge. Mahimahi are still in numbers haunting the weedlines offshore, wahoo are really starting to make their presence

known in the green waters between the reef and blue waters, and right at the reef’s edge the king

mackerel are starting to make their comeback. Water temperatures have finally cooled a bit and water

clarity is back up making lobstering ideal if you can find time between the thunderstorms that have been
