September 2022 News Bulletin
NLWIC Updates
September has arrived and with it, students are back in classrooms at Corner Brook’s College of the North Atlantic (CNA) Campus – where NL Workforce Innovation Centre (NLWIC)’s headquarters are located. The halls at all 17 CNA campuses across the province are filled with new energy – excitement, change, potential.

On the NLWIC front, our team spent the summer planning and preparing, and now that fall is (almost) here, we’re on the brink of announcements, news and events related to workforce development and innovation– stay tuned!

In the meantime, this is a good opportunity to reflect on NLWIC's mission and vision:
Mission: To innovate workforce and workplace development in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Vision: To lead a sustainable and innovative workforce development ecosystem that accelerates the economic growth and prosperity of Newfoundland and Labrador.
These statements were constructed by the team in a strategic planning session last spring as we reflected on the last five years and planned ahead for the future. This mission and vision leads NLWIC in everything we do; it's the reason for our team to come to work every day and the purpose driving our six core activities.

Like everywhere else in Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador's labour market dynamics are changing, which is creating issues with labour shortages, skills shortages and skills mismatching - but there are also opportunities. NLWIC will continue to research and share ideas and models of innovation that will positively impact employability, employment and entrepreneurship within the province's workforce.

Social and Economic Well-Being Plan
engageNL
Well-being means having what we need to create and maintain the lives we want for ourselves. Well-being includes our health, financial security and enjoying what we do every day. It also means having positive relationships, and feeling like we belong in our community.

The Provincial Government is developing a renewed approach to addressing poverty, as well as increasing focus on well-being for children, youth and their families. There is a close link between reducing poverty and improving well-being. Therefore, this work will be combined under a Social and Economic Well-Being Plan.

The Department of Children, Seniors, and Social Development is inviting members of the public, organizations and interest groups, to provide feedback to assist in the development of this Plan.

The deadline to participate is October 3, 2022.
