Stay in touch as we celebrate Washington Youth Garden's 50th anniversary. Enjoy our updates and insights from FONA, the U.S. National Arboretum, and WYG.
Our garden team has harvested 2,760 pounds of produce from Washington Youth Garden so far this year! That's over 550 pounds more than we had harvested this time last year.

We continue to donate this fresh produce to students and their families in our community throughout the summer months. We have weekly produce distributions at our partner schools and Child Defense Fund Freedom Schools.

In addition to beds bursting with vegetables, a huge array of flowers are also blooming. From dahlias to sunflowers, from marigolds to passionflower, WYG is full of color this summer.

Come visit the garden during your next trip to the National Arboretum and see for yourself!
Water Gardens
The pond surrounding the Arboretum's Visitor Center is teeming with koi fish and flowers right now. While many of the lotus are done blooming for the summer, waterlilies will bloom through the fall.

Want to see more water gardens? Visit the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens from now through Sunday, July 31st for the Lotus and Water Lily Festival. This festival features new activities and family programs each weekend, as well as kid programs each Wednesday from 10 AM to 2 PM.

Summer Evenings
Evenings in the Ellipse Meadow are always magical! The supermoon rising over the Capitol Columns during last week's Movie in the Meadow made for a particularly special evening.

Join us Wednesday, August 10th for our next evening in the meadow with the U.S. Navy Band Summer Concert. Enjoy a picnic while you listen to music from the Concert Band and watch the full moon rise over the columns. Doors will open at 6 PM and the concert will go until about 8:15 PM.

From our Friends: Casey Trees
As summer heats up, young trees across the District need more water. Casey Trees is hosting upcoming volunteer days on the mornings of Friday, July 22nd and Saturday, July 30th to water and care for young, vulnerable trees

Young trees need 25 gallons of water a week to survive. Casey Trees plants thousands of trees across the District every year to restore, enhance, and protect DC's canopy.
