Dear Rondout Families, Faculty and Friends,

We have had another great week this week.  We are finishing up our beginning of the year assessments and are working on reviewing where each child is, how much learning was maintained over the summer and where we need to target our differentiation within our clusters.   We expect to have preliminary data to share by the end of the month and we will be sharing some key data from these initial assessments with you within the next few weeks so that you have a sense of where your child has begun the year academically.

This year marks the 21st anniversary of 9-11 and we will be having a Red, White and Blue Day along with a brief flag ceremony on Monday morning where we will come together to say the Pledge of Allegiance and honor those impacted and first responders everywhere.     We encourage everyone to wear one or more of these patriotic colors as we come together. Time and location may be impacted by the weather but we have a rain plan if necessary.

We have had to make a few adjustments to our Rondout Athletic Program schedule and as a result we will be sharing the schedule with you early next week. Please check the flyer for other important events coming up through the end of October.

For those of you who would like to plan ahead, here are a few key details about Halloween at Rondout this year.

  • Halloween Festivities will take place on Monday, October 31st which will be an early dismissal day. K-2 students will be dismissed at 2 p.m. and 3-8 students will be dismissed at 2: 30 p.m. K-5 students will participate in a costume parade and room parents will collaborate with homeroom teachers to host classroom parties.   Students should bring their costumes to school and will change after lunch.
  • The K-5 parade will be at 1 p.m. and K-5 classroom parties will be held from 1:20 p.m. to 1:50 p.m. K-5 parents are welcome to view the parade and check out the party. Parents may also sign their child out after the party and drive them home rather than have them take the bus home.
  • The Upper School, grades 6-7-8, will have a pizza lunch and will have an offsite bowling trip which has been a favorite tradition throughout the years. Additional details will be shared in upcoming flyers.

Students continue to harvest the produce from the garden which is donated to both the North Chicago Community Partners Food Pantry and the Haven of Libertyville. We will be planning one or two more garden parties before we clear out the garden beds for the winter. Thanks to all our families who volunteered to help with the garden this summer.

Looking ahead to November, we are bringing back our Veteran’s Day Program this year and will be hosting a special event on the morning of November 11th. We are “Calling All Veterans” from family and friends to join us in celebrating the sacrifices of those who have served and are serving our nation in the armed forces.   Please reach out to Dr. Wojcik if you have someone we should invite to our program or if you are a veteran and would like to participate the morning of November 11th.   We look forward to bringing back this well-loved Rondout tradition.

Please check out the information below about this weekend's Monarch Butterfly Migration. Our retired first grade teacher, Mrs. Greenberg shared that many years ago, the Monarch's route went right through the Rondout fields prior to the arrival of the many businesses and industrial buildings. She remembers sharing that special experience as a teacher with her students.

Have a wonderful weekend. Be safe...Take care... Until next time...

An Important Note

From Ms. Davis

Dear Parents,

Tuesday, September 20, 2022 Rondout will be holding its Law Enforcement Drill. This drill is one of our safety drills that must be conducted on an annual basis. Our staff has been trained extensively on how to react in various crisis situations, including intruder or lockdown events. The drill will consist of conversation with students about how to act in these situations and what to do. Legislation allows for parents to opt their students out of participating in the drill. If you would like to elect for this option, please submit your request in writing to Elizabeth Davis (elizabeth.davis@rondoutsd72.org) by end of day on September 16, 2022. Thank you for your partnership.

Best,

Elizabeth Davis

Principal
