June 2022

Maryland/DC American Choral Director's Association

Happy Summer Sherry!

We are now in June! Can you believe it? We are so grateful and thankful that choral music is alive, strong, and is still RESONATING as we navigate this pandemic and other factors that affect what we do everyday. It has been a difficult year, but we congratulate all of our teachers on completing another academic school year.

Thank you to all that attended and supported our Collegiate Choral Conference back in April. We had a great time and are so happy that we were able to share with our upcoming teachers, new teachers, and veteran teachers.

We know that many of you are in concert season. We wish you all well and know you have programmed phenomenal concerts that create sound waves that travel further in different directions, fostering diversity and inclusivity in ways that RESONATE with more people.

We hope that you will join us August 4-6, 2022 for Voices United in Manassas Virginia. Headliners include: Jason Max Ferdinand, Janet Hostetter, and Troy Robertson. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER.

Happy Summer Everyone!

Sincerely,

Maryland/DC ACDA Executive Board

Unbreakable: A Musical About Queer History

The east coast premiere of the epic choral work about the untold stories of our community, Unbreakable is a musical chronology of LGBTQ+ lives in America through the 20th century. GMCW's 2021-2022 season continues with this musical by composer Andrew Lippa (Broadway’s The Wild PartyThe Addams FamilyBig Fish).  Joining us will be celebrated vocalist Nova Y. Using different music genres and told in multiple scenes, Unbreakable presents stories from American LGBTQ+ history including: Harvard’s “Secret Court” of 1920, the life of transgender activist Sylvia Rivera, The Lavender Scare, civil rights activist Bayard Rustin, the AIDS crisis, and Nobel Peace Prize-winner Jane Addams, among others.
